I think he should have. I know he was supposedly trying to honor what came before but ST09 seemed to really attempt to wipe out what came before and build on the bones of the original. I would have preferred them to never mention TOS and just reboot and have it a stand alone universe. To me the crappiness of the NuTrek universe just seeps into the old one and having Prime Spock stuck in the Nutrek universe makes it even more sad. Discuss.

Yes. No. Maybe. I really don't know?

I think it was a no-win scenario for him either way.

Same result either way, so it really makes no difference.

It's always nice to see Leonard Nimoy again, but these films would have worked just as well as a total flat-out reboot.

    Worked with BSG, didn't it?

Not a reboot as far as starting over, from scratch. They used the old universe as a jumping off point.

    Kind of a re-continuation.

You could still had Nimoy from an alternate reality, but no Spock in 2. Enough Deus Ex Machina.

    It's a reboot with a time-travel fig leaf.

In answer to the clean reboot, no. IMO having Spock Prime present added value to both movies.

BSG was a clean reboot, which grew when Richard Hatch returned albeit in a different role, so I guess one CAN have their cake and eat it too. :)

I never thought Hatch brought much as an actor to nuBSG.

This. Spock Prime just gets to hang out and dispense advice.

I loved how they did this "in-universe" time travel reboot. A very cool concept.

it was a proper reboot. at least star trek 2009 was as it took place in an alternate reality. sadly star trek into darkness destroyed all of that.

To much references to wrath of khan. I think STID should have taken a complete fresh way forward. DO as much s as it can to spate itself from the tos timeline.

I think part of the fun of a reboot is taking a new look at old material. I've enjoyed multiple versions of the Joker and Lex Luthor over the years. I thought seeing Khan again was fun, and outside of the engine room scene there is very little of The Wrath of Khan in it.

But anytime you do a reboot, you're walking a fine line. Stay too close and people complain, stray too far and people complain.

Other than the fact that there was a guy named Khan and a scene where Spock yells said person's name, TWOK and STID couldn't have been any more different.
