Eh, Valentines Day is a Hallmark holiday-- I would argue it's far more about consumerism than "love," but it can be nice, too. It's a great day for girls to show off their cards and flowers and stuff! So, I'm not against the day necessarily-- it could also be a good opportunity to let a girl know your interested with a nice gift!

I sent my fiancee a homemade Valentines card and a nice letter (we're long distance right now).

You kidding? Valentine's Day is *all* about consumerism. It just uses love as an excuse.

It is whatever you want it to be, and nothing else.

No offense, but that is not an answer I'm prepared to accept. Lord knows I'd *like* to be able to derive some joy out of all of this, but I can't see the logic. Valentine's Day concerns itself, at least superficially, with romantic love. That is something I have none of, at this point. So therefore there is nothing to relate to.

Mind you, Trekker's perception of imbalance is not warranted.

If people allow themselves to be dominated by their partners to the extent that feelings of inequality arise out of silly things like Valentines Day that's their own lookout. It says nothing about the day itself and speaks only to the poor quality of their relationships.

Valentine's Day is like any other day. You either live it or you waste it.

Perhaps you should alter the parameters in your search for a mate.

I used to be bitter about it, like Scrooge was about Christmas, but now it's no big deal anymore. Seriously, as you get older, you just don't care. ;)

I tried to make this past Valentine's Day something good, and it came out to be just an ordinary day, which is good. At least I didn't get bitter and sulk. Oh, I feel lonely, but I can just plan to be busy for next Valentine's Day.
