Just heard it with audio for the first time...

Nimoy sounds like he did when Spock was dying in TWOK.

^^That's probably my one real complaint about the teaser. Nimoy sounds almost strained when he delivers that line. It's a moment when that iconic voiceover should come through as bold and powerful, not raspy and high-pitched. Not criticising Nimoy, just saying that they would have done better if they could have gotten a take in a lower register.

Yeah, but you're male. I'm female. I have zero desire to see some lame monster movie. I won't even watch them for free on TV.

Now if they had paired the teaser with another decent sci-fi film...

41 million on a 25 million budget first weekend...

Wonder how much of that is the Trek faithful going to see the trailer first, the movie second?

If the new Trek movie pulls in those numbers first weekend, it'll be glorious indeed.

I had been on vacation for the past two weeks and I was completely surprised to see the teaser when I saw Cloverfield last night. Boy was I excited. Great teaser JJ! That man loves his trailers.

$300 million opening weekend? I'll have some of what you're having.

He's extrapolating the ratio... 25/41 = 150/300. Not what I meant though--41 mill weekend plus Juno-like word of mouth equals hit.

I think that he's trying to say that "Cloverfield" pulled in an estimated amount that's roughly twice its budget. The mathematical comparison isn't perfect, so the point doesn't work very well. Also, the original poster was stating that he/she would be happy if the new Trek movie pulled in $40+ million on its opening weekend, so the comparison misunderstands the intent behind the comment as well.

Saw it, liked it (for what it was), and feared that the board would be a circle-jerk of negativity by now because the font on the ship is similar to the "Enterprise" credit font, or for some other equally mundane reason. I'm very glad to see my fears were unjustified!

I'm also glad the film will have less competition around the holidays (thanks to the rescheduling of other movies and its own shifted release date). If Abrams, Orci, Kurtzman and Co. are trying to rope in casual viewers as well as die-hards, the schedule changes should help.

    Yeah, my bad.

If they had paired the teaser with "Terms of Endearment".

It's 5pm, Monday. Hell, if I were back home it'd be 7pm Monday.

As soon as it was Monday *somewhere* in the world, Abrams himself should have uploaded the trailer.

This does not bode well for the movie.

    :(

OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE HD ONE!!!!!!!

Stop wasting all our time making this out to be the HD one when it clearly isn't.

Soon the "It arrives Tuesday" jokes will start.

But seriously, I thought they missed a good opportunity to connect the 60's with the Trek era by having the NASA logo morph into the Starfleet Delta.
