I wasn't expecting the Starks to be wiped out.

Ah the red wedding. Thought it be the finale. Gave it above average instead of excellent. But could have gone either way.

I know all of this comes out of the books, but one thing ths show has going for it is the way it builds up a character each season only to give him a brutal And shocking bitch slap. Ned Stark, Tyrion Lannister, and, now, Robb Stark. At least Tyrion is still around.

Yes, my non-book reading friends. Come and feed me your delicious tears

Seriously, that was brutal. I knew it was coming, and I still had my mouth open in shock. When Rains of Castemer started playing, I got goosebumps. Damn. Just damn.

Sansa and the little Starks (and Jon Snow) are the only ones left now.

Even with reading all the books, and knowing this was coming, it was still so brutal. Michelle Fairley should get an Emmy nomination for this episode. That scream was just, so haunting.

I have to hand it to them...that was horrific no matter if you read the books or not. Talisa...wow, I didn't see that coming. The silent ending just leaves you shattered.

...but now I cannot WAIT for the next season, mwa ha ha ha ha.

I know that it isn't real, but, after reading what happened to Robb Stark's wife, and reading and seeing the aftermath of what happened to Sharon Tate, I may find it difficult not to associate one with the other. I am feeling trepidation about seeing this episode.

I never read the books, so it was a complete surprise to me. So for the people who have read the books, have their been many changes done to the story? How many books are there and are they worth reading having watched the show?

I just wish the show had done a better job of explaining just how vile this treachery was, by betraying Guest Rights.

"The guest right is a sacred law of hospitality. When a guest, be he
common born or noble, eats the food and drinks the drink off a host's
table beneath the host's roof, the guest right is invoked. Bread and salt are the traditional provisions.
When invoked, neither the guest can harm his host nor the host harm his guest for the length of the guest's stay.
For either to do so would be to break a sacred covenant that is
believed to invoke the wrath of the Gods both old and new. Both the
teachings of the Old Gods and the Faith of the Seven hold to this. Even robber lords and wreckers are bound by the ancient laws of hospitality. "

The ancient Greeks had a word for guest rights: xenia. I learned about this right from reading Herodotus and Thucydides. And, this belief is present in the Bible, most notably, when Abraham was visited by God and his entourage in Genesis 19.

"This is supposed to be a happy occasion! Let's not BICKER and ARGUE over WHO killed WHO..."

Ah, and here it it, the moment us book readers have been waiting for for three years. I still vividly remember reading this chapter back in 2000 and having to set down the book like "Holy crap, Martin did NOT just do that!" You're thinking ok, Robb will just get this unpleasantness with Walder Frey out of the way and get back to fighting the good fight. Nope, bam, he's done. It's over.

I'm so glad they included my all-time favorite Hodor-related line here. "NO MORE HODORING!" :guffaw:
