I was just watching a show (not a hunting show) and the person on it took aim at a moose in the middle of a stream. I thought killing animals over water was nationally illegal, does anyone else know this not to be the case?

There's no federal law on the subject, so it would mean that every single state would have to have the same laws for it to be nationally illegal. I don't know the answer, but I suspect it's not the case.

Better go arrest all those duck hunters.

Moose tend to be near water...

Just to give a bit more of a researched answer. I looked at Delaware law and could not find any prohibitions on shooting animals in water (although I already knew that it is illegal in Virginia). So I know that it is at least not banned in all 50 states.

I'm pretty sure you can always shoot a moose in self-defense, even out of season, by screaming "It's coming right at me!" Or at least you can in South Park.

    Beat me to it.

I'm thinking of taking up bird hunting this year. I've got the of for it and I'm moving to a bird hunting hot spot (northwest ND) next month.

(This may be the first time North Dakota and hot spot have been spoken in the same sentence.)

A hog once bit my brother on the inner thigh. Another inch or two and he'd have been a permanent soprano! Ah, farm life... :techman:

I think he was referencing Monty Python...

But since we're on the topic, I was once savaged by a badger. Really.

Perhaps the reference would have been clearer if he'd written "møøse."

In the state of New York, it's illegal to drive with a live moose tied to your fender on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. ;)

    Damn Moose!!

Just for the record, I checked with my friend at New Mexico Game and Fish and there is no such law about shooting game in water here in the state...

    It's a Woody Allen reference.
