Yeah. All the FX are added later anyway.

That shot should have been in the trailer just as a nod to obsessed fans like us. :)

FrontierTrek should chime in and tell us what happened to that shot on the Blurays.;)

I think it's already been established that this shot is being corrected in the remastered version, just as the energy beam was in "Farpoint".

I feel bad for season 5. Can anything compete with the "Darmok shot" excitement?! [IMG]

For me, any special effects shot is interesting to think about. For example, what will the 'game' scenes from 'The Game' look like (it looks like they'll have to be recreated?)?

I can't imagine CBS-D changing it from the checkerboard and tuba. (Sorry Frakes)

This would have been the perfect opportunity to meet with the director and put his original vision onto the screen, even as an alternate track ala TOS-R

Unfortunately the director, Corey Allen, died three years ago. Personally, I think the game looks just fine as it is and its design doesn't really need to be drastically changed (and they haven't significantly changed the look of other games in TNG-R, so there's no reason to believe they'll change it here). But I can't wait to see the inevitable Google Glass mashup video where the crew uses it for sexting each other and surfing for porn!

They take great pains to recreate CG assets as closely as possible. The work of reproduction is VERY intricate and involved, and they go to great pains to ensure every small detail is reproduced as closely as it can be.

Shame the opening shot in Sins of the Father looks so bad! I watched it again last night, hoping it had been fixed after the sampler disc, but sadly it looked as fake as ever.

I don't think the shot covers areas that have a phaser emitter that would be going towards the other vessel.

So the original footage of the BoP which was just footage of the ship from Star Trek III matted into the shot looks more real to you than the new CGI version?

It's not just the BOP. The Enterprise was CGI also.

In a strange way, yeah. The BoP looked more realistic. The new one just looks off to me, I can't really say why. The CGI Enterprise looks great though.

Actually I think it's how the shot was framed. The BoP is far too close to the Enterprise.

Of maybe it's one of those monster oversized BoPs, and it's actually further away than you think, but the perspective looks off because you think it's regular sized ;)

It's not just the ships they changed, it's the lighting. I think new shot matches better and is far superior.

Wasn't the original mission statement to keep things as close as possible to the original presentation with the exception of fixing obvious flaws (like wrong phaser beams)?

I still can't see what was "obviously" wrong with the original opening shot.
And if they changed that, why did they recreate the 4-footer in CGI and not use the CGI 6-footer they already had, instead. Well, you get the idea...;)

The shot of the Enterprise exploding still looks like a tiny little model instead of a starship exploding in space. Cause and Effect I'm guessing. I wish that were replaced with CG...and most of the ship shots so we can get some variety...
