Yea, if it was during Smith's first year, I could see Tennant worrying it might step on his (Smith's) toes, but, since it will be into Smith's 4th Series, I can't imagine Tennant wanting to miss out.

Yes. It does. Can she regenerate? Sure. After we've seen Carole Ann first.

Only if you buy the "Ian & Barbara haven't aged" line from SJA.

It was just a throw-away line. While listing off a bunch of the Doctor's former companions and what they're up to now, Sarah Jane mentions Ian and Barbara and they they remoured to not have aged since the 1960s.

Really, the line is open to intrepretation and could be easily shoved aside if they brought Ian back. Maybe the people who made these comments simply saw Ian and Barbara while they were visiting 2010 or whenever when they were with the Doctor. Or maybe their aging has slowed down to the point that they won't look elderly until the mid 22nd century or something. Or it could just be ignored all together, it's not the sort of thing the show needs to stay tied to if they ever mention the characters or show Ian again.

^ There have been a lot of throwaway lines in Who. How many of them did they stand behind?

True enough. Apparantly, The Sarah Jane Adventures also blatantly contradicted the 12 regeneration limit first mentioned in "The Deadly Assassin."

We know Ian has aged anyway - he introduced the VHS release of the surviving Crusades episodes, and was visibly much older. (I mean the *character* did, not just William Russell.)

I just had a thought. We've had regenerations all this time, but what if we had a storyline involving de-generation. The dying Doctor could start going in reverse; and that could even explain the aging of the actors - the further back the Doctor goes, the closer he is to death.

^Hey, that's pretty good. But it wouldn't allow for all or some of the Doctors interacting together, which I imagine most of us want to see.

You know what we really need? A multi-Doctor story where it's the same incarnation.* Yup. Matt Smith x2!

Doc 1: Shut up, I'm thinking.

Doc 2: No, you shut up. I'm thinking!

    Amy**: Wow, stereo Doctors.

Docs 1&2: Shut up Pond, we're thinking!

(*Metastasiwatchimacallit, Gangers and any other artificial duplication don't count.)

^^What about those Night shorts on the DVD? After all, we had the "present" Eleventh Doctor meeting up with an Eleventh Doctor from a point in the future preparing to take River to see the Singing Towers.

He said Gangers don't count. It wasn't really the Doctor. Well, it was, but it wasn't.

^ The scene would play much the same though and it would just look like they were re-hashing ideas.
