Jumping the gun here, as we haven't even built anything yet! But yes, our plan is to open up the sets to other productions. We are even working on a Sci Fi film school with some big names. More on that later.

Well it was supposed to be an emergency exit, but we nixed that. It just messed with the symmetry.

I "tried" to arrange filming at Vasquez Rocks...and it's bizzarely complicated and expensive. Among other things you need a permit for EACH PERSON that will be at the location, as well as providing the registration/plate number for all the vehicles months in advance. If you are coming from out of town and renting vehicles...it's practically impossible.

There's a reason The Big Bang Theory used a painting instead of going there....

I wouldn't know. Though I suspect it also probably had just as much to do with the fact that The Big Bang Theory is a sitcom shot at Warners, and that in the entire history of their show they've never shot a single scene at an actual, exterior location. It may just be they don't have the budget for that kind of excursion, when they could do it indoors on stage for a fraction of the cost (and sparing them the logistical nightmare you've described.)

Myself, I only go to Vasquez to hike once or twice a year, or for the inevitable photo op with friends.

A much more interesting location that Axanar will be using.

Say what? don't have the budget?!?

I don't think that show has ANY money problems...

I don't think the production budget would necessarily be affected by the syndication rights. You can certainly argue that the show could afford to do a remote shoot, but the producers could argue that they will get the same audience either way so why not save the money?

I was referring to the show's specific shooting on location budget. It may not even have one, as evidenced by the fact that they've never shot a single frame of that show anywhere other than the soundstages at Warners.

I don't dispute that Big Bang is a financial juggernaut for CBS (further evidenced this morning by its renewal for another three seasons). I was pointing out that in terms of how they spend that money (such that is available for production), they wouldn't (and haven't) elected to do so by shooting on location.

Very cool! I keep meaning to go visit there but haven't done so yet. It will be nice to see it on screen again!

Agreed. This was a great interview! The guys at Trek FM do a great job! I am excited about this film so much more after listening to Alec & Richard speak at length about the project. Count me in on the crowd funding:bolian:
