It's not the same without the Amok Time fight music.

I think we got 1/2 second there and no embarressing underwear.

    Count me in.

I think we can confidentally count of J.Allen being 'in'.

I'm not against the 'Amok Time' music being included.

Edit: Lets tweet this idea to Orci. I'm sure he's receptive to fan ideas.

This will probably ruin the entire thread but...

In that case, they better add in some homoeroticism between the female characters as well. To keep things even.

(In actuality, I'd be upset if Trek did something like this anyway. It's sci-fi, not softcore porn damnit!)

I think there were probably days that Roddenberry and William Ware Theiss would disagree with you.

Need more female characters to carry this off!

And need Gaila. BRING HER BACK! Sparks fly off her, she can homoerotic over anyone.

Orci also knows that some fans had issues with Carol Marcus, played by Alice Eve, disrobing for what appeared to be practically no reason at all. Lindelof has taken the blame for that scene, but Orci says the true fault of that scene actually lies with someone completely different: J.J. Abrams.

"Originally, they were going to open the torpedo in orbit, in space, so originally we had Kirk chasing her into a room where she was changing into a space suit," Orci said. "So it seemed more purposeful when we originally conceived it."

However, because of production costs, they decided to open the torpedo on land instead. And while Marcus does wear a different outfit, Orci does understand fans who say she didn't need to really change -- and certainly didn't need to do it in front of Kirk.

"I can't claim to be an expert on feminism, but I can point out that you can see Kirk half-naked as well, in both movies," Orci said of Chris Pine. "He's in his underwear, so is Uhura.

"Did the movie need that scene? No. Was Alice Even a good sport? Awesome."

Okay, now the space walk would have been an improvement.

Orci not an expert on feminism - why am I not surprised?

To be a tiny bit serious here I don't have objection to seeing good looking people in their underwear but I'd rather it be somewhat meaningful. All that nakedness in ENT got a bit ho-hum for me after a while.
Look seeing the guys come out of the gym is OK and seeing Kirk in bed with his latest conquest is understandable but even they agreed that the Alice Eve thing was a bit gratuitous.

And I don't think seeing the other main female character in her underwear makes up for it.

But the great unanswered question is: why did they digitally alter her underwear from silver to dark blue in post?

It was cheaper to film the torpedo scene on land than in front of a greenscreen?

Or just in a room that's supposed to be in space. Yeah, I don't get that.

I'll give you that one, cause the reason for the change makes no sense.

Budget--maybe? But there's already so much greenscreen in the movie, one extra scene wouldn't break the bank. Hell, wouldn't need greenscreen: CGI that shot, put the actors faces onto the CGI characters.

They still get the underwear scene, so all they did was...what? Trade a cooler scene for a pretty basic scene?

If it was a spacewalk then everything would have to be up in a rigging, including the two actors and the torpedo. Unless you used a transporter (potentially dangerous with a volatile new torpedo), you'd have to build a new external airlock or torpedo bay set. And you might want some spectacular vista in the background instead of just a plain, boring field of stars, so there's the cost of CGI. So, unless the ground location shoot was on some far off exotic island, I could see it being cheaper to just do it that way.

Exactly - much simpler, logistically, to do on the ground, and thus less costly. Basic filming for the torpedo scene was done on the same Playa Vista lot as the planet Nibiru and space barge scenes, with a matte derived from some nice, remote-looking Icelandic landscape for background.
