Judging by the context here, I think the word you're actually looking for is "kewl," not "cool."

STAR TREK: The Next Generation does not owe for coolness! That much is certain ... and yes, it did benefit from its many differences from The Original Series. The fact that the makeups had evolved for the Klingons, especially, was a boon to TNG. Patrick Stewart being proud bald was a refreshing change from William Shatner whose insecurities prevented him from ever admitting to his baldness. Some of his hairpieces were really bad, especially after TMP. And Stewart's a better actor than Shat - a much better actor. The Borg were very mysterious, in the beginning, and a very serious threat. How the hell could the Enterprise "D" ever hope to win against them? When the Borg morphed Picard into Locutus, it nearly destroyed the Federation. Wow ... just ... wow! There was plenty of fighting before TNG's run was done. And nothing says "cool" like a bevy of hot babes and TNG delivered them, hand-over-fist ...! StarTrekIsCool has got it so right ... TNG is VERY cool. I love it!

Star Trek is cooler than startrekiscool will ever be.

Laser weapons are used in "The Cage"/"The Menagerie".

Aw, c'mon, Silvercrest: the laser drill in Home Soil was far better than the guest actors in that episode!

    Fair statement! :)

I kind of thought so, too. Couldn't really get a good look at her, though. The only closeups we got of her she was bawling her eyes out in a darkly lit room!

The only one of the scientists who seemed 'real' to me was Malenson, and he got killed after about only three lines!

I already closed one childish thread by this poster. This one seemed harmless enough and an opportunity for a little fun. The OP hasn't been back.

... AGREED!!! The sentiment is a very good and quite correct one:

Perhaps it's preaching to the choir, more or less, but I can't help but love this show and these characters and getting the chance to say so is the greatest feeling in the whole world:

    STAR TREK is cool...!!!

I grew up thinking Star Trek was cool. Unfortunately alot of my peers did not agree with me! Nowadays I still think Star Trek is cool, I've made a success of my life and "geek" is now "chic". Alot of my school peers are in prison or worse. Who had the last laugh.

In a rating between Awful and Awesome, I'd give Star Trek a Magnificent.
