Yeah...the problem with making it "small-scale" is--in order to keep viewers interested, each season kinda had to top the last, in a way. Spoiler: the first four seasons. Season One: Assassination attempt Season Two: A nuke--and an attempt to start a war. Season Three: A super-virus plot, involving Mexican drug lords. Season Four: A kidnapping AND a SUPER-nuke plot AND an assassination attempt AND a nuke. They REALLY pulled out all the stops with this one! Any wonder the next two seasons are "credited" with jumping the shark? You get the idea. So I like the international angle--like the Die Hards, it's a great way to up the ante without looking ridiculous.
I don't know, has anyone tried to.. not ramp up the bullshit? I think if they came up with something interesting it wouldn't have had to have been freakin' WMDs every season to keep viewers. Oh boy yeah that last Die Hard movie was fantastic , they should totally emulate that.
I don't think it has to be about topping the last season. If the writing is good, people will watch a show that's already a hit. Look at the piece of crap Dexter's become. Season four was interesting up until the point of the first "master plan," which turned out to be extremely idotic. Then it turned to to be a diversion for another plan that was a diversion for another plan, and the ultimate goal by the end of the show would've caused way less damage and destruction than the initial fake plan! Plus the CTU personal side stories just went to pot.
^ Agreed. That's why I think the shorter series is a good idea. It was obvious in some seasons that they had to pad out the season running time with the CTU/FBI personal crap and plans within plans, twists within twists. A 12 episode season can trim (indeed must trim) out a lot of the excess fat.
Would you Adam and Eve it? Jack Bauer is going to Lahndahn, innit?! http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/10/03/24-die-another-day-to-film-in-london-exclusive/
Kim Raver & William Devane Set For ‘24: Live Another Day’ I'm guessing that Devane's character is probably the current US President.
Does this means Audrey Raines will come out of her coma, and Jack will finally have a happy love interest?
So 24 originally ended what.. 3+ years ago? I ran a computer simulation to extrapolate what the 24verse should look like after another 3 years of nonstop terror and it told me to watch something called "Beyond Thunderdome". I just hope Captain Bauer can lead the children to Tomorrowmorrowland.
So I guess we can see where they're going with this new season...how can you surpass an atomic explosion in LA? With a global explosion of confidential information I guess. And only Jack can stop it!
So the plot of the new season is: Jack Bauer races against the clock to prevent Wikileaks from releasing his own CTU personnel file to the world public.
