The other person I'd really love to decontaminate is Erika Hernandez. All that rock climbing with Bakula was pleasant enough but why couldn't we have her SHEER in a pool like in the above vid? Also there should have been more sweating during the rock climbing. Erika looks very good sweating.

I can't speak for anyone else but I was quite fine with the handbra scene - and I say this as someone who personally, has little to no interest in Hoshi's breasts. That scene had other things going for it.

As to decon, for all it's derided as being cheap titillation, it was only really ever presented in a sexualised way twice - In Broken Bow, as a counterpoint to Trip and T'Pol's arguing (and even there it could be argued that the characters weren't treating it as a sexual situation, it was just set that way for the audience) and in ANIS as a dream sequence.

The rest of the time the characters and the filming treated it like it was a part of the job. Yes, they were in their underwear, but they didn't ogle, or make inappropriate jokes/gestures to one another. It was routine and we the audience, could take from it that the fact both sexes were in decon together without incident implies that the future has gotten past a lot of sexual hang-ups and imbalances that still exist in the real world today.

Or we could just sit back and enjoy the eye-candy ;)

Yes, I'm sure that's exactly why they put those scenes in, for us to come to that conclusion about the future.

I feel like that point would have been better made if:
    1. the crew had been purely naked (of course, with the appropriate camera tricks for real-world actors)
    2. the actors were filmed in non-suggestive ways
    3. the introduction to the decon chamber, as LC pointed out, had not been about flirting in Broken Bow.

The first point would mean that, yes, there would be no hang-ups about nudity from the crew itself -- no shaming, no sex negativity, just a default form of body acceptance. It also would have helped, and I say this honestly, if less than physically perfect cast like Dr. Phlox were shown in there, too (and that's also something about Trek in general -- when was the last time we saw a more common frame on a woman in the franchise? Almost every woman on the show -- main, guest, or even background -- are all svelte. The same definitely can't be said about the men.) The second is very much about the producers' intentions with having the chamber in the first place -- if the direction is non sexual, then there's nothing intimate to suggest. The third, though, set the tone for the chamber for the rest of the series, and is the very reason why this thread was made. All because of that introductory scene, which was carried over by future writers and the viewers themselves.

But yeah, if the intentions of the producers for the decon chamber to show that humanity had risen above the point of naked shame and titilation, then the production would have been handled differently from the start.

The decon chamber didn't start with Enterprise. The TOS crew were doing it in comics from the 70's - butt naked!

    Are they doing 'The YMCA'?
We should have some Gold Key caption contests.

Edit: Also, this thread made me think that it would have made for an interesting episode of Voyager if we saw that fraternization and crew violence over sexual matters was getting out of hand. Or did they ever do an episode about that?

(Sigh) way too often they made Voyager look like they were just going to the store to get milk.

Check out the abs on... Bones?

And are those TWO Spocks? Forget the nudity, cloning in the decon chamber is a whole other discussion.

Of course not. But what the producers intended is not the point (I'm sure 90% of the stuff we nitpick to death in these forums was never intended to be taken the way it is). All we as viewers can go on is how it's presented and it was mostly, barring the two exceptions already mentioned, presented in a routine, non-sexy manner. You're free to draw whatever conclusions you want from that.

Could they have done a better job - very much yes, as Cyke101 examples proved.

And probably a much more fun discussion - especially if you don't forget the nudity ;)

I'd be down for nude clones, but only if rails and word bubbles don't get in the way :)

I used to run a comic caption contest in the Trek lit forum, but only a few people played.
It's Kirk, Spock, Scotty and McCoy. And what they're saying is "HA! HA! HA! HEE HEE HEE HEE! HYAR! HYAR! HYAR!" because, according to McCoy in the previous panel, "Those steri-rays can tickle a man to death... nearly!"

Tickle rays certainly would have made ENT's decon chamber scenes a little different!

How about if instead of a blue vibe with the lighting, gel and undies it was all red? That would have been kinda vampy.

Throw in some towels to snap with, and we got ourselves a locker room party!
