Started in on The Hobbit and getting a serious case of the Tolkein-bug. I'm trying to avoid a full-on reread of LotR right now because of time, but I'm tempted to finally give The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales a shot.

A little unsure where I'll head next, reading wise though. I have a LeCarré book I'd like to tackle and Neil Cross's Luther tie-in. Hmmm... Anyway, got about half of The Hobbit to go.

Just picked up FROZEN HEAT by "Richard Castle" at the library. Not sure when I'll find time to read it . . ..

Having finished the last four Star Trek: Vanguard books, and inspired by having seen the film Lincoln, I've taken up reading the second half of Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

I reviewed the first book (HEAT WAVE, I think?) for Curled Up With a Good Book, back before I knew what Castle was. I didn't get the gimmick behind it at all. Thankfully, my editor inserted a few sentences here and there and added an intro that saved my butt from too much embarrassment. :)

You were not alone. I can't remember the thread, but we were discussing this recently and some bookstore employees confirmed that there are readers out there who don't realize that "Richard Castle' is a fictional character on a TV series.

I begun reading Dracula but have taken a break from it. Will finish it over Christmas. The characters are interesting and I like the setting. This being 19th century literature however, it is incredibly drawn out and looooong. No sense of brevity back then. I haven't read Dune, only seen the miniseries on TV years ago.

I haven't read Dune in decades, but as I recall, it's far from compact itself. Although that's probably more true of the sequels than the original.

If you think Dracula is long-winded, stay away from Varney the Vampyre. It makes Dracula seem like a lean, mean, fast-paced thriller . . ...

I generally have two or three books stashed at different places to read at different times during the day...

    Right now, I'm reading:

The IDIC Epidemic (TOS #38) by Jean Lorrah,
    Probe by Margaret Wander Bonanno,
and Titan: Over a Torrent Sea by Christopher L. Bennett

Over the weekend, I finished up
A Singular Destiny and Demons of Air and Darkness (Gateways Book 4) both by Keith R. A. DeCandido.

I think Dune may actually be longer than Dracula. I don't have any actual stats to back that up, but that's what my gut tells me.

And believe me, if anyone thinks Dracula is representative of the lengths Victorian literature is capable of...they've never read the book I'm finishing up (see signature)!
