Thought of this while running errands this morning. I have a bunch of random songs that remind me of Star Trek even though the songs themselves have nothing to do with outer space or exploration. For example, whenever I hear "You Are the Woman" by Firefall, I think of the scene from The Motion Picture in which Kirk informs Decker he's being relieved of command. I don't know why. I've just always associated the two. Maybe it's because the Enterprise is the woman Kirk's always dreamed of, but I don't actually know.

    Here are some others:

"All Out of Love" (Air Supply) - Captain Esteban and USS Grissom
"Glory of Love" (Peter Cetera) - Khan Hoisting Chekov with one arm
"I Can't Make You Love Me" (Bonnie Raitt) - Enterprise warping away before Reliant explodes

Don't ask me to explain these. The only one that I can make any sense out of is the song by Air Supply. One of my friends from medical school is a man named Esteban Modad. I vaguely recall hearing "All Out of Love" several times on the radio during the first few weeks after we met and associated his first name with Esteban from TSFS. Yes, it's weird.

The Joker by the Steve Miller Band is totally about Kirk. ;)

Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah
Some call me the gangster of love
    Some people call me Maurice
'Cause I speak of the pompitous of love

I second that one! My older sibs listened to that album (on actual vinyl lo) all the time, and I always thought of Spock with that song.

I admit that "Amazing Grace" often makes me think of Spock's funeral . . . :)

Whenever I listen to it, always evokes Trek, esp darker DS9 and Dominion War. There's something in sweep that reminds me of Goldsmith soundtracks. But I only discovered today when looked it up on wiki that is actually space-themed. So you learn something new!

There´s a line in the song "Stick to Your Guns" by Jon Bon Jovi that goes "You can go to war, but only if you have to". Whenever I hear that I ALWAYS sing along "You can go to warp, but only if you have to"

Please don´t ask me why :)

Perhaps not entirely random, but I've always think about TOS when I hear the songs "Starman" and "Ziggy Stardust" by David Bowie. In the case of the former, I've always liked to think of it as an ode to Kirk and Spock, and I always thought the chorus sounded a bit like the TOS theme with the tempo slowed down. I don't know if anyone else see where I'm coming from.

Some are related I guess. For example Starships always reminds me of Trek because I once rewrote it as a Trek parody (I am quite proud of it if I do say so myself ;) ) as well as E.T by Katy Perry (just imagine Spock listening to that song and the face he would pull XD) Blue Skies is an obvious one as well (makes me cry every time I hear it) as well as Come Fly With Me.
    Unrelatedly:
Cold Shouler by Adele (Reminds me of Bashir and Garak ;) )
You've Got The Love by Florence and the Machine
Home by Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes
    Demons by Imagine Dragons

This isn't entirely random, for reasons that will become obvious, but there is a portion of the book "Spock's World" that describes a Vulcan family run asteroid mining operation at a time shortly before the Reformation. One of the primary focuses of that section is the relationship between two of the characters and how it is falling apart, in part due to the female spending too much time with VR entertainment to escape her surroundings AND dealing with her significant other.

There is a group called T'Pau that had the majority of their hits in the UK in the late 80s/early 90s. (Carol Decker, their lead singer, claims they named the group more or less randomly based on something they heard on TV, and that the band almost ended up being named "Klingon" - a claim I want to call BS on, because a. No one says anything about Klingons in "Amok Time", b. There is an IDIC featured in the artwork in the background of the video for their song "China In Your Hand", and c. continue reading.) The only song they are really known for in the U.S. is "Heart and Soul", but one of their British hits was called "I Will Be With You", and the words and feel of that song are sooo reminiscent of that part of "Spock's World" that I can't help but identify the two. Particularly key lyrics for the reason why are included below:

    "Here in my deepest dream,
    Running through another scene,
    I win your love again.
And no, it doesn't bother me -
The time I spend in imagery -
    Well, it's how I live.
You see, I don't believe that we tried
    Everything before our love died
    And I just can't forget
Oh, is the one chance all we get?"

This song makes me mad at our politicians of the last 40 or so years when I think about what has happened with the real world American space program. But it also makes me think about Enterprise, and humanity being angry with the Vulcans for holding them back and being ready to get out there.

"I blame you for the moonlit sky
    and the dream that died
    with the Eagles' flight.
I blame you for the moonlit nights
    when i wonder why
    are the seas still dry?
    Don't blame this sleeping satellite..."

Your alias says you Captain Jean Luc Picard
Of the United Federation of Planets
Cause he won't speak English anyway

    We'll divvy up there"
