The only reason I said BD Wong was because I couldn't think of anyone else for the part, and I remember hearing his name somewhere.

B.D. Wong would be good for Harry Kim's older brother if Harry Kim had had one.

He would make a good Giancarlo Wu.

I normally don't cast anyone in my mind when I'm reading books, but B.D. Wong would be perfect as Giancarlo Wu.

^ Yeah, he would deffinitely be a good Giancarlo Wu, but now I need a new Shar, and I still need a Vaughn. If I could just get those two then I would have all of the main characters cast.

I thought we liked Vincent Kartheiser for Shar? With Amy Acker for Thriss?

So now we need Dizhei, Anichent and Charivretha.

    * Dizhei needs to be a chunkier girl than Thriss, sturdier - since all Hollywood females these days are emaciated waifs, I'm not coming up with anyone right now.

    * Anichent needs to be butch and manly - perhaps the gardener boy off Desperate Housewives or the guy with the big dredlocks off Atlantis.

    * Vretha should be regal and imperious - I'm thinking Glenn Close.

I know Vaughn is based on Sean Connery, but for those not convinced how about Tom Skerritt for Vaughn?

He'd have the right accent and a lot of the right qualities. Of the people mentioned, he comes closest.

I actually have a Vaughn based almost completely on my own imagination. I'm using the guy from the covers for a visual cue, but I have his voice and a lot of his mannerisms on my own. That's atypical for me, I usually use someone, whether it's a person I know or have seen somewhere, as a template.

    Ok, cool.
Here's what I've got so far:
    Vaughn: Tom Skerritt
Prynn: Grace Park, she was my choice before I saw MI3 and now that I think about she would probably be better.
Shar: Vincent Kartheiser, he's deffinitely alot better then BD Wong.
    Trier:Suzie Plakson
    Phillipa Mathias: Teri Polo
    Akellen Macet:Marc Alaimo, duh.
Thriss: Amy Acker, I'd never really thought about somone for Thriss before, but I do like her.
Vretha: Glenn Close, Wow, she would be perfect for Vretha.

Ok, now we need Yevir and Akaar, and we will have all of the regular and major recurring characters.
I tried to do the links again but they wouldn't work.

I can't begin to describe the number of ways that doesn't work for me. Skerritt's persona is all wrong for Vaughn, IMO. But hey, that's just me. :D

I've always been a fan of Wong, and Kartheiser always makes me break out in hives -- though that's not really his fault, it's just the role of Connor on Angel was just so dreadful on so many levels, that I tend to hold it against him, even though it isn't really his fault. :)

I didn't like Connor either, but I think Kartheiser would be a good Shar. He has an excellent, strong and interesting voice, which is important in a heavy-makeup role.

I'm thinking of the potential for him playing sort of an older Duke Forrest. That's why it works for me.

I just couldn't really think of anyone else for Vaughn, so if you have any ideas KRAD, I'd love to here 'um. FYI I'm trying to make as complete a list as possible with choices that as many people as possible agree with.

Can't see that at all. Doesn't work.

Interesting choice. Any idea how to deal with the fact that Tom looks older then Vaughn (on the cover of Twilight)?

IIRC, Marco has said that the inspiration for the character was Sean Connery's portrayal of Captain Ramius in The Hunt For Red October, and that's who I always pictured even before hearing that.

^ Q420 is correct: Marko Ramius has always been the template for Vaughn.

Well, obviously Vaughn demanded that his photo be airbrushed for the cover of Twilight! ;)

Actually, I don't normally bother casting actors for roles of characters in novels, the description in the text and cover art are usually enough for my imagination to generate a image. But reading this thread started me thinking about actors for the roles and I thought Tom Skerritt was a good physical likeness for Vaughn.
