Or you could just wait and find out when you see the movie.

They don't have to spoil the whole movie. Just at least give us concrete info. It's stupid to keep doing this and keep us guessing even though I'm sure they think they're clever and it's better for us.

Knowing some stuff doesn't spoil an experience necessarily.

    Yep, pretty much.

That and Jumping Real Good seem to be the extent of his powers.

The people's of Earth that defeated him in the Eugenic Wars.
Using his superior intellect. The details are unimportant but he is a character likely to adapt quickly to his environment. You can see how quickly he is able to take over starfleet ships.

Cos he is nice (pre TWOK) or the father of the girl has some important position he needs to exploit.

"Is there anything you would not do for your family."

Detonate a fleet to save his daughter.

John Harrison is Gary Mitchell because the same thing happened to him.

Possible. An alien possession of a starfleet officer would justify the use of a barely known back ground character on TOS as the villain. Of course, this guy doesn't necessarily have to be the same John Harrison and they are recycling the name.

You know, with respect to John's "powers of persuasion" and the observation in one of those interviews that he undermines the "interconnectivity of the crew:" when he starts going on about how "your world is safe" is a "comforting lie..." gee, has anyone on the Enterprise crew had their world destroyed in the last year or so (movie time)? ;)

I think he is a Talosian giving the illusion that he is a human named John Harrison. Just like the Talosians in the Menagerie gave a sick Pike the illusion to live his life to the fullest at the end , in the upcoming first 9 minutes of the film, he wants to offer the parents to heal the sick girl in the hospital by giving her the illusion of being healed also.

A political terrorist? So much for the great 'escapism' that is Star Trek!
That's pretty lame. Revenge, terrorists, etc. It's like a skipping record with this shit.
I rewatched Trek 09 last night and enjoyed it but thought to myself... I wish there was something really different happening this time besides someone bent on revenge, etc. Who knows? Once the full 9 minutes have been previewed maybe it'll be clear what's happening.

    It's still escapist!

It provides "escape" from a universe where there is no transporter technology, warp drive, or known habitable planets other than Earth.

Star Trek is often about whats happening in the real world, only with the "serial numbers" filed off. Escapism wasn't really its goal.

Yep, I have to agree. Star Trek is at its best when it deals with current issues.

    Thank you, J.J.!

What is cool is that the character sounds exactly like Shinzon.

The only character from TOS that matches these stregnths is Charlie Evans. Or maybe it is a Klingon altered and wants revenge on star fleet as well as the empire for wronging him.:klingon:

Khan did have mental powers. Don't forget how he opened that door from inside his cabin in Space Seed.
