One of the podcasters (from the podcast series "The Delta Quadrant") I listen to created this ridiculous made-up scene during their review of "Threshold". Skip to 26:30...almost made me pee my pants. So funny... Warning: If you actually like "Threshold", you may not enjoy this. http://www.trekmate.org.uk/the-delta-quadrant-2x15-threshold/
I have no interest in actually listening to that thing, but wanted to say that Threshold is awesome, full of the kind of 'whacky Sci-Fi craziness' that makes films like Mars Attacks and the Men in Black movies so fun to watch. I know Brannan Braga has since tried to 'disown' the episode and apologized to fans for writing it, but, as a writer myself, I think that's a mistake. You should never apologize - or have to apologize - for anything you've written even if people think something you've written is a pile of crap. You stand by your creativity and ideas even if other people don't like them.
I absolutely love Threshold. People always have hate eps of any series but with Voyager we can be proud that our ep people love to hate is actually INSANE. No other series goes this far, the Captain mutating and breeding with one of her crew and producing children we actually see! And they are slimy! And not even a humanoid like Deanna got! People are shocked the first time they see Threshold. And Paris is HORRIFYING looking. He really does look like some B flick horror movie creature.. from the black lagoon yada yada.. and even as you are recovering it is dawning on the viewer that this hideous creature is going to mate with Our Captain. Who thankfully we never see looking quite that hideous. And the babies are still out there. The story is still out there. These children are listed on memoryalpha under Paris and Janeway's profiles as their children. Also totally agree about not apologizing.
A lot of people have issues with the bogus science in the episode and with the 'lizard babies', but for me, the science doesn't matter and the lizard babies are the 'icing on the cake', as it were, and are the Star Trek equivalent to the gag in Mars Attacks of the Martians' Achilles heel being cheesy elevator music. BTW, my initial reaction to Threshold was far from 'shocked'; it was 'this thing is both crazy awesome and crazy brilliant'.
I do like the absolute insanity and humor in Threshold. Also I didn't post this to hate on Threshold. The funny part of the podcast is not related to disliking or liking the episode. The part that I was trying to post is just a short made-up romance scene what-if between Janeway and Paris that starts about 27 mins in.
Apology--Hell he went on a develop & name his next (non trek) series based on this ep's title. It wasn't an apology it was an endorsement!
OMG I never thought of that! I did enjoy what I saw of Threshold.. but that was a long time ago. Maybe I'd be all meh now about it.
I have to state this again: "Threshold" is actually funny if you consider it just a nightmare that Janeway had after eating too much of Neelix's food. Not my favorite episode but a funny one in which I really enjoy some scenes.
Fine, be that way, watch Threshold and DIE. Personally I have no problem seeing my Captain mating, even if it is with a slimy version of Paris.
