Ok, this has been bugging me now since the bluray landed on my door mat.

    The bluray menu sucks.

    Truly an epic fail.

I saw The Day of The Doctor in the cinema and loved it to bits. The atmosphere, the scarves and fezes, a remote control K9, a replica Police Box, old men who were kids in the 60s dressed up, it was a truly buzzing atmosphere that evening.

    So, i preorded the bluray.

So, imagine my dismay when i was taken out of my excitement to re-watch it in glorious HD. Expecting a kick-ass cool menu to celebrate the 50th before hitting play. Something akin to the menus for season 5,6 and 7, only be confronted by...

A select and click menu with a soulless womans voice telling me what i was selecting as if i was visually impaired.

Surly someone must have thought that was a bit shit when developing this release. We couldve had an amazing menu.

Also, you americans got a lenticular sleeve and two discs. *shakes fist* :guffaw:

The menu voice for the blind is standard. It can be irritating, but many of us will need it in years to come, unfortunately.

Yeah i get that. But, why so boring and quite frankly shit, lazy and cheap?

I get the whole blind thing, but its not on any other Who release, at least not the whole damn menu. Series 5,6,7 sets tell you what disc etc, but not everything.

    Sigh.

Also, any one got any info on the lenticular sleeve release, i cant find ANYTHING online about that edition. Its better than our UK standard stuff.

Must be a UK thing? I've never encountered anything like this.

It certainly isn't on any of the R1 releases.

    R1 releases are cool.

On a side note, none of my local Best Buy's have the blu-ray of DOTD, as in "not available in stores". One WalMart had the DVD.

Gonna have to order it online.

Yeah its on all of mine too. But it only tells me what disc i have put in and then it goes straight to the menu. After that it never verbally tells me what im selecting
    .
Thats what sucks. I may have to import to get a decent copy. Of a British release. Lol.

Its some blatant in your face politically correct shit the BBC have probably pulled. I have searched everywhere and not one reveiw mentioned this issue. Confusing. I just wondered if anyone else had the same.

When loading up UK dvds you get the women's voice asking you to press enter if you need the voice menu. If you don't press enter then that is the last you here of her and the menu screen proceeds as normal, at least that's how it works on every other Who dvd. I can only assume you weren't paying attention and pressed enter.

Weird, because Best Buy actually released the DVD/Blu-Ray a week earlier than other stores. It was available on the 3rd.

Yeah, if you press enter right at the start you get the voice menu, if you don't press enter you go to the normal flashy animated menu without voice directions.

Exactly, it's not hard! Audio navigation is great. No one bats an eyelid at subtitles for the hearing impaired, so it's a bit odd to have a moan about something optional to aid the visually impaired, who have always been neglected with DVD traditionally.

They must not have updated the website as to the availability in stores.

Their loss, I ordered from Amazon. I just won't have it this weekend.
