I just came back from watching the movie.. Very impressed by it! Its basically an indirect rehash of The Wrath of Khan but with some nice unique differences to make it different. I thought it was executed really well. Good movie, but of course its not without its flaws and plot holes.

I just hope the third movie will be a movie with some originality whereby the crew will be on their own to explore, instead of relying on plots and villains from the Trek movies of the past...

This review here is actually pretty well written and I can't help but agree with some of the points the reviewer mentioned.... >>> http://badassdigest.com/2013/05/14/star-trek-into-darkness-spoiler-review/

My "barometer for success" is very complex:

    1. Whether I like it;
    2. Whether people whose company I enjoy like it.

The only point I agree with in that review is that the pace is perhaps a bit too break neck, there are interesting points brought up which ultimately don't get that much attention because of how fast the movie goes.

Personally I think the best movies are the ones where they draw inspiration from the series and canon.

I don't think they did, the ranks were simpler - ensign/lieutenant/commander/captain.
I can just about imagine them rounding down to two pips for Lt. Cmdr. Scott. Commander Spock had three and Captain Kirk (who hadn't yet had time to alter his dress uniform after his demotion) had four.

In the 3rd movie, Kruge will try to steal the secrets of transwarp beaming and magic blood.

Hahaha! I'm thinking though since this is an indirect remake of TWOK, imagine a remake of The Voyage Home with a touch of JJ Abrams..hmmm...

Didn't Picard have magic blood too?
Didn't Shinzon want it so that he could live?
Hey the blood thing is a nod to NEM.

At least we get to see a new BOP. And Maybe JJ Prise will be ditched and we'll get something better. Wait, I don't want to see their attempt at modernizing the Refitted Constitution class.

Here's a question for the Nerd Rage about "ripping off Wrath of Khan"

Was the Dark Knight a ripoff of Batman89?

    I didn't think so.

I did have some nerd rage during the warp core sequence because it is so similar to TWOK with even the same lines being uttered by a different character. Why go over the same scene so exactly? I didn't like it but maybe I will get over it with repeat viewings.

EDIT: It doesn't help that I have seen TWOK dozens of times over 20 years.... ! I think TWOK did that scene better.

Ann Hornaday, movie critic of The Washington Post, gave a short but glowing, rave review of the movie today on Tony Kornheiser's radio show. She brought up an interesting point, too. To paraphrase her, this movie is also a prequel because the story is still about the growth and shaping of the characters into the people we knew from TOS. We've yet to see them at their best. She's looking forward to a third movie with a stronger story that challenges the characters in full form.

I didn't care for Batman before the Nolan versions. I thought Batman89 had its moments but was over hyped.

But in my book ST:TWOK is the best Star Trek movie ever made.

Which will look cool when the saucer separates in the next movie.

They're clearly happy with their Enterprise design. I am too:)
