everything I keep reading is about an apocolyptic change to the Star Trek universe via the Borg. All of this reminds me of the New Jedi Order was everything was ripped apart and destroyed to clear the slate and remake the Star Wars EU. My copy of Destiny Pt1 arrives today. WE'll see how close I am.
I still don't have my copy (damn royal mail) BUT to compare Destiny to the New Jedi Order is doing Mr Macks writing ability a massive dis service.
after they save chewies brain, theyll implant it in B4. then he will be an android that howls when you ask him something!
After they implant chewies brain into B4, he steals Captain Picards Yacht and renames it Falcon of the Millennium
Zefram Cochranes first contact with aliens ended up being with a scruffy looking nerfherder and some hairy tall guy that howls a lot. Some chic with her hair braided too tight and a white blonde guy with a fixation on some dead old guy were unwilling passengers
From what little I know of Destiny (basically just the overall storyline), the comparison to NJO is an obvious one to make. However, I suspect Destiny will end up being the stronger story overall since it is a trilogy and won't be dragged out over 19 goddamn novels - seriously, no single storyline warrants that many books. Plus, it looks like Star Trek novels will be reeling from the effects of this story years later, whereas aside from a Vong-formed Coruscant, you could easily forget the Yuuzhan Vong war ever occurred by the time of the Legacy of the Force novels. Star Wars books just jumped ahead like 10 years in the narrative. It'll be interesting to see what the Trek universe is like a month or two after Destiny, should Destiny really bring about the huge changes some have speculated it will. I'm sure there will be other differences between the stories, and seriously, the story of the more powerful enemy coming to conquer all in their path is just sort of staple of the genre...Hell, not even the genre, just storytelling and history itself.
Agreed. That was the first time it ever took me three years to read a series. The damn thing just went on FOREVER, and has (so far, anyway) put me off the Dark Nest Trilogy, and the Legacy series. That said, I'm still looking forward to Destiny. What little I know of it, it sounds interesting, although I must have missed something somewhere, "Captain Ezri Dax"?? How did that happen?? Nothing against it, just don't remember it from a previous book.
The story behind Dax's promotion is explained in Destiny itself. The trilogy is set four years after the most recent DS9 novel.
