Saw this on SI.com a few days ago. Very sad. I loved him as Mongo, obviously, and very much as Lance Cpl. Lyle Wesson in the M*A*S*H episode Springtime. It was a somewhat Mongo-like role. RIP.
Surprised no one's mentioned his turn as George Papadopolis, in one of my favorite shows from childhood. RIP.
Both were great. But one of my favorite things was actually a commercial he did for diet soda back in the 70s. That last line, said sort of "Mongo style," always cracked me up.
I remember him doing this bit with Jim Belushi on an old SNL episode. "We're a couple of white guys, we don't take no crap. When we deliver our...white rap!" At least I think that was him.
I like to think that when he got to Heaven, Cleavon Little was waiting there with a Candygram for him.
Late to the party tragically but Webster was on Channel 9 when i was younger. The Greek suffix -polis means "city". Why didn't Karras (and John Stamos on Full House) tell the production team that he did not have municipal aspirations?
You forget that somebody's dead, then somebody bumps a thread like this and you're sad all over again.
Webster was good and i never cared for Coleman or the way he treated the crew of DS as fame went to his had (as Bain reported years later).
Coleman did stuff like order the crew to get him food which upset Conrad Bain who had worked in entertainment for decades and had never pulled stunts like that.
The character's name was Papadopoulos which according to wikipedia Is there a reason you're using a decade old memorial thread to compain about a different actor on a different show than the subject of the thread?
