....Not one single solitary fracking award whatsoever, Not one.

Oh well, I now know that it's our fault as Trekkers for not voting en masse like we should've.

    Any thoughts?

I've said it before, Star Trek fans are generally not in MTV's target demographic. . . and really. . . I'm sort of glad ST09 won't be lumped in with the Twilights of the world. . .

No one is asking the big question: which is how did Angelina Jolie get nominated for a movie ("Salt") that hasn't even opened yet?

    Holy temporal paradox!

(I suspect red matter was involved.)

MTV is to awards as...well...MTV is to music.

Music, yeah; movies, it's still good. I'm just disappointed that it didn't get any awards, that's all.

Trek '09 was only good when you compare it to Voyager, or Enterprise, or Nemesis.

On it's own, it wasn't that great.

Can't really start hating on the MTV Movie Awards now...

Sure, Star Trek XI can be looked at as the movie that revitalized Star Trek as a franchise and was one of the biggest films of 2009, but I think its overall popularity is somewhat overrated by Star Trek fans. All award shows are nothing more than popularity contests, IMO, and the voters simply voted for who they liked the most. Can't really blame them for not being all Star Trek fans. It really was an achievement in itself for Star Trek to be nominated for anything by MTV, because it generally isn't the case...

Also remember that MTV gave a fair amount of publicity to the movie both pre-release (one of the first good looks we got at the bridge was via MTV, wasn't it?) and at last year's MTV Awards. It all evens out.

Hmmm.... I'm willing to bet that the movie is still good.

I'll watch it again and post detailed thoughts about it.

Right, that's why it outperformed every other version by a hundred miles. ;)

In fact, it was as good or better than most Trek since the original series.

The general public - not, notably, a group that's less smart or lacks the fine taste of Trekkies - has already voted on this movie. How many tickets and/or DVD purchases is the studio required to refund because of not winning this award?

    Yup, it's still good.

So... who wants to start a petition... or maybe go straight to a demonstration? I'll clear my schedule for the next however long it takes. We are going to win this one. The good fight! Rise up against the oppression of MTV! They have used us for the last time.

I guess Trek isn't hip anymore. At least not hip enough for the MTV crowd.

    Didn't last long, did it?

I wonder if the geeks will have y'all back ;)

Shunned by the prestigious MTV awards... what a pity.

It's no loss to a flick that was hardly cinematic genius.

They may have been shut out of awards this year, but wasn't there a Star Trek skit done during the 2009 awards -- and (IIRC) didn't Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto perticipate as presenters?

Why does comparison even matter in terms of how many people saw it? If people make decisions on quality based on how popular something is, then said people need to take a lesson in thinking for themselves. Otherwise they should just accept that Twilight: New Moon is a better movie than Star Trek just because it performed better...
