Re-reading The Crimson Shadow, one of the many small things that pop out for me is the character of Lieutenant
Aneta Šmrhová. She has a nice bit of development in this novel, especially in her exchanges with Worf and Dygan: passionate, focused, willing to bend the rules.

I like her. There's something in her character that reminds me of Tasha Yar, or at least of Tasha Yar's potential as a rising young tactical/security officer willing to take risks on behalf of the helpless and the needy. Her appearance in McCormack' latest notwithstanding, Šmrhová was introduced by David Mack in his Destiny trilogy and later received more sustained development in the different volumes of the Cold Equations trilogy of last year.

She's a personality, and I look forward to her continued development.

I like her character too. When I read Cold Equations she remineded of Tasha Yar. Nice to hear she gets more character development in the Crimson shadow.

She's a terrific character! I really liked Ensign Ally Scagliotti as well. She had a cool vibe I found interesting. I'm really loving the Enterprise crew right now!

I really like her character and have enjoyed her development over Cold Equation and The Crimson Shadow.

I haven't taken to many of the new crew on the Enterprise, some of them I dislike. But I am developing an fondness for Aneta Šmrhová and Dygan.

I agree. I haven't read a lot of the TNG novels [yet], but she was one of the characters that stood out from Crimson Shadow, and I'd love to hear more about her. And of course, Dygan too.

My main problem with her is the name....I find it a little jarring. Kind of like having a character named Jenna Jameson on the bridge.

How come? Is she based on a adult movie star then?

I really liked the character. At first, I didn't really know what to make of her, and was afraid she was only there as a antogonist for Worf. But she really became her own character, and I do hope we get to see more of her in the coming novels.

Yes, she gets her name and physical description from an adult film actress.

I knew she was based on someone, I thought it was a model, not an adult actress.

*EDIT* Just did a quick Google Images, nothing really naughty showed up, but amongst the images was a picture of Geordie with a smirky smile. :D :D :D

You know, humanity is much more evolved about things in the future, so maybe they have an evolved view on sexuality. She could be seen as a classic adult actress/model in the future, and being named after her could be seen as a great honor.

Titters and giggles aside, I do enjoy the character, too. Although I still miss Choudhurry a little.

Putting Dr. House on Voyager was iffy enough, but now porn stars? Ugh.

I'd read speculation that she was supposed to be the Enterprise-E security chief from Countdown. I guess not.

It's not the first reference from the adult industry D Mack incorporated into his star trek books. Quite the contrary.

I never would have known this had it not been mentioned, now if it had been Nina Hartley yes. Still, I don't see an issue.
