Re: RIP - 4E I visited the Ackermansion twice - Once in 1975, when I was 15, and again in 1989. I was amazed on the second visit that Forry remembered me from the first one, 14 years earlier. He was an amazing man, and an amazing fan. RIP, Forry.
Re: RIP - 4E I am somewhat chagrined to say that I didn't even realize he was still around at this point. Always enjoyed Famous Monsters back in the day. Condolences.
Forest J. Ackerman RIP No thread yet regarding the sad demise of Forest J. Ackerman? That needs to be remedied immediatly. I don't believe I ever met the man, but as someone who grew up on his ground-breaking magazine, FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, I do feel like a little piece of my childhood just passed away. FAMOUS MONSTERS inspired a generation fans, including, I believe, the likes of Steven Spielberg and John Landis. It's a sad day for us old-time horror fans.
Re: Forest J. Ackerman RIP I read that this morning. Sad day for true SciFi fans as the father of the term has passed.
Re: Forest J. Ackerman RIP What do you mean no thread? It's here on the same page, posted yesterday. http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=76008
Re: RIP - 4E I am honored to say that I had the privilage of meeting Forry on several occasions. The most recent was this summer, and his health had clearly gone downhill. However, even with that, his humor and good spirits (no pun intended) were evident. Forry was the kind of man that I would like to be. I don't think there is a person alive who met him who didn't take a piece of him back with them. He was a generous, kind-hearted man. I'm also lucky that I know the young man who had been living in his house for a number of years and taking care of him. So my information about the man is accurate. Forry had just celebrated his 92nd birthday. His health recently had taken a turn for the worse, but he seemed to have a very draastic recovery. I think everyone knew that time was short, though. Not enough good can be said about this true gentleman. As he described others, I can say about him. Underneith it all, he was Santa Claus. The stars will shine a little less brightly from now on.
Re: Forest J. Ackerman RIP I've felt that about a few people who have had threads posted here notifying us of their passing. I think it's only natural that time marches on and new fans may not be as familair, or familiar at all, with folks from the "past". It saddens me, but I've learned to live with it.
Re: Forest J. Ackerman RIP I thought some might miss it because of the title (or we'd get stupid comments like the one about the comic strip). I'll append his name to the title to the thread.
