So, in other words, the movie's world's awareness of Norse legends is exactly like ours, except when it's not. And why do they speak American-accented English? Let's face it, this just isn't a thinking man's movie. It's pulp, man. :p

I don't think that Thor's actual age is a big issue given that the Bifrost uses space-time wormholes. Given his lack of maturity I'd say more like 30 than 1000.

I know they had one scene explaining this, but it doesn't match Thor's actions in the movie, IMO. Why does he act freaked out by being on Earth and interacting with people when he supposedly did so in the distant past? If he is a thousand years old, why does he not act more experienced and wise than your typical human?

I know he is young by Asgardian standards, but they perceive time the same as humans, and 1000 years is a long time! I'd expect any human alive that long to be wise and experienced, despite being young compared to others of his kind. What has he been doing every day for 1000 years, if not learning and gaining experience?

I know these are minor nitpicks, and I am probably not explaining very well why they bother me. I really enjoy the film. These are things that just feel wrong to me. The Asgardians, Thor in particular, just do not feel alien or god-like to me.

If you're not understanding the way he acts and thinks fully, I'd say that's the perfect definition of alien or god-like. ;)

Thor's cleaerly acting strange and freaked out because the last time he was on Earth humans were running around with swords and axes, sitting in long houses, eating meat with their hands and riding horses.

Why did one of the Norse gods speak with a Japanese accent?

I'm just about to sit down and watch the DVD. Haven't seen the movie yet, so I'm looking forward to this. I've deliberately avoided this thread so I could go into it with little or no preconceptions.

So he never once in the 1000 year interim bothered checking on the technological progress of Earth? And if not, why would he think Earthlings would still be using swords and axes after 1000 years?

    Again, a minor nitpick.

I do have to say I was impressed with Chris Hemsworth's performance in this film. I was surprised, to be honest, as I didn't care for him in the few minutes of screen time he had in Star Trek.

Maybe he doesn't act as well with an American accent.

That actually is explained in the comics: He's not from Asgard at all.

He's from another realm whose inhabitants were the inspiration for some Eastern Mythologies.

They had to come up with that explanation when folks noticed he didn't look like the others (which is because the artist based his appearance off of Charles Brosnan).

    Charles Bronson.

I'm used to people calling Pierce Brosnan by Charlie's surname but this is the first time I've seen it the other way round!
