I apologize if someone else has posted this, but I came across Doug Drexler's proposed season 5 Enterprise NX-01 refit with a secondary hull: http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/ . Mr. Drexler has alot of cool things on his site, drexfiles. By the way, if there was a season 5 and his refit aired it would automatically make the series Finale non-canon since the non-refit ship was seen (good news for Trip!) It would be nice if CBS someday decided to make some Direct to DVD movies of Enterprise, I know I would buy them.
I's have liked to have seen that. Why not change things more each season? That's one thing I liked with TNG was each season there were some changes, more in the first 3 or 4 of course, but still a change.
There was an anticipatory discussion on the subject [thread=108906] a couple months ago[/thread]. And here is the post at Drex Files with the sneak peek of the NX-01 refit to be featured in the 2001 Ships of the Line calendar. I agree, it's an outstanding blog.
Actually, as pointed out in those earlier threads, the NX-01 was never seen from the outside in the finale "These are the Voyages". Only the interior sets were shown. Oh, and then there was this montage of starships at the end, showing the TNG Enterprise, the TOS Enterprise and the ENT Enterprise. Both the TOS and ENT ships were shown unrefitted there. Since we know the TOS ship was later refitted, we could easily argue the ENT ship was refitted as well, despite being shown in an earlier configuration in this montage that was not in any way related to the actual episode. As the episode ended, NX-01 was set to be decommissioned; it wouldn't make plot sense for her to fly to the distant stars after the final scene. So we must be watching at some sort of a flashback there... Timo Saloniemi
Or the holodeck reconstruction of a significantly mislabeled 22nd century work of fiction, originally created to cash in on President Archer's election, and taking some necessary liberties on historical accuracy. Timo Saloniemi
Some of Drex Files' content is being archived on the Trek Collective site: http://www.thetrekcollective.com/p/drex-files-in-exile.html
It may return in a different form later- I am just so glad I harvested every image I could as I found them. It is a habit I go t into years ago when I learned that the Internet is a fluid place and counting on links to locate important references only brings a 404 when you are desperate. I like the NX-Refit- it gives the ship a nice retro vibe and succeeds in making it look like a vessel earlier than the Connie instead of a flipped Akira.
