I seriously doubt I would bee into 'comics' today if I hadn't had Métal Hurlant to show me that fantastic world as a kid!

Though not as well known as many other creators, Moebius was a truly unique talent. His artwork still draws me back to those days when genre fiction and art were truly magical and exotic, and often mind-bendingly surreal.

    RIP, Moebius. :(

That's a damn shame, I always really liked his work, unique and brilliantly imaginative. He'll be missed.

I'm feeling a mix of emotions and thoughts that just aren't going to come out as anything coherent, so I'll just post a few images of his work I'm familiar with.

(That won't get yanked by Photobucket or get me warned. ;))

^Scrolling through those fine samples of his art I kept wanting to see Blueberry... and I almost missed him :rommie:

 Well, you won't miss these. I'm actually not that familiar with Blueberry. I know the character was hugely popular overseas, but I just wasn't that exposed to him. I was, however, always impressed by the variety of methods he used to illustrate him. Frank Frazetta once remarked that many people can study an art form or style and become proficient, but doing it with multiples, "That's talent."

I wonder how many pictures of Wolverine were inspired by this one?

Dammit. This is not a good day. First I hear the Encyclopedia Brittanica is no more (and it frustrates me to no end how people don't seem to understand the implications of that) and now one of my favorite artists is gone. I'm going back to bed. :(

I was never one for the westerns, but look at that artwork :sigh:

Not to turn this into a comic forum, but I noticed something I had not expected while reading Jodorowsky's The Technopriests (it was the only entire series I could find at the library last month :rommie: ).

Very sad to hear of this and at a somewhat disappointing age as well.

This my favourite Blueberry related artwork, I'll have to track it down someday:

He also designed the spacesuits for Alien:

A further thought: he was a huge boost to my imagination when i was growing up, and 'The Airtight Garage' and 'The Horny Goof' were pretty good stories.
