Puny little captain--he'd crush him like a little worm.

Unless Shatner used his flying drop kick!

Arnie was too busy pumping iron and babes to be aware of Star Trek.

STAR TREK represents a bright future for humanity, so SkyNet wiped out all references to it. SkyNet certainly didn't need Kirk double-talking any of its peripherals into overloading and exploding in a shower of sparks.

There was this thread the other day about people not knowing Star Trek, and I got criticized for saying that it was pretty normal. People just cannot fathom when someone doesn't even know a tiny bit about that thing they love so passionately.

But then again I don't think the story is true.

I guess this lays to rest that talk of Arnie being considered for the role of Ru'afo in Insurrection.:p

I read your comments in that thread and I agree with what you said there. But this here is different, IMO. It´s not about knowing Star Trek or characters from some TV show, and it´s not about recognizing an 80-year-old actor, that few people know anyway. This is about Arnold Schwarzenegger not knowing who William Shatner is. Arnie lives in (or near) Hollywood since the 80´s. I´m sure at some point or other he´ll have noticed a new Trek movie opening and the fellow actors involved. And Shatner has also been on TV a lot since that time and has had some more recent TV and movie (Miss Congeniality for instance) work too. If the story is true (which I have no reason to doubt) I find it very odd, that he has no idea who Shatner is, even after someone points it out to him. That to me is what makes this anecdote well worth telling. But of course, YMMV :)

Shatner and Schwarzenegger are only separated by two degrees anyway... Paul Winfield appeared in both The Wrath of Khan and The Terminator. :p

And that's the fallacy I was talking about. Why should he have noticed it? For every Trek film premiere, a thousand other films premiere in Hollywood. You don't automatically notice and remember it all just because you live there. For someone not interested in it, Shatner is just one out of many actors.

It also means Arnold isn't familiar with T.J. Hooker, Rescue 911, Priceline commercials, or one of the most classic episodes of the Twilight Zone. Doesn't watch much TV, I guess.

I can understand not knowing the particulars of Star Trek.

But you'd have to be living under a rock to not know who William Shatner is. The guy is everywhere!

Well, what did you expect? Arnie is a movie star! Shatner is just an actor. (An actor, by the way, whose career has been broader in scope and far longer than Arnold could ever hope for.)

I hope Arnie saw his kid's massive eyeroll.

Nah. If Shatner tries that on Arnie, he'd break both his legs.

    Among other things.

Very doubtful. Size doesn't equate to the ability to fight. And who's to say Shat could go at it anyways. But I get where you are coming from.

Having some knowledge and experience of Arnie's former world (the one that brought him to prominence)....I wouldn't be at all shocked if Shat were in somewhat better condition today than is the old Master Blaster.
