Which actor would, in your opinion, be suitable to play T'Pol's (Romulan?) dad?

Personally, Trek alumnus Kurtwood Smith comes to mind... What do you think?

What would I have found cool?

Stephen McHattie had already played an Alien Foreman in Season 3's opening episode, The Xindi. Heh, that character he played always reminds me of Frank Booth in Blue Velvet. Was it the writer or McHattie who came up with the idea of his breathing difficulty? That old-style radio mic he uses is a great left-field choice too.

But of course, he's forever memorable to DS9 fans as Senator Vreenak.

If he had got the role of T'Pol's Father... whenever he's onscreen in his Vulcan robes, the audience can go "He's a faaaaaaake!".

I'm glad they managed to get Joanna Cassidy as T'Pol's mother, as I'm a huge Blade Runner fan. I presume she'd might've returned again for flashback scenes, if needed.

Drifting off topic for a second, but still casting...

...if Season 5 had visited Denobula... I can definitely see Dan Aykroyd as an in-law of Phlox, either played for laughs or straight drama... seeing him alongside John Billingsley would've been amazing, as they're both live wires.

There's speculation amongst some fans that T'Pol's dad was a Romulan -- I think it came from her mother's dying words (I don't recall exactly what she said, but I think it was something about there being a reason T'Pol always had more difficulty suppressing her emotions than most Vulcans). There's no proof one way or the other, but some people think the issue might have been followed up in later seasons had the show not been cancelled.

As for me, I've never given much thought to who would play T'Pol's father (if he ever showed up, alive or in flashbacks). Kurtwood Smith is an interesting choice -- he's played an Efrosian, a Cardassian, and a Krenim; it might be neat to see him as a Vulcan/possible Romulan.

For T'Pol's father I would pick someone like Mark Alaimo.

I don't see the connection. Vulcan emotional suppression is an acquired skill (one that comes with great sacrifice, too), not a biological distinctiveness.

James Sloyan...he was required to appear on Enterprise at some point, and that he didn't is probably why the series ended prematurely.

Every Star Trek series without James Sloyan is destined to be cancelled. ;)
