Yeah, its got a third series, which they've just started filming. It's going to be 5 episodes, over 5 nights, with 1 story. Torchwood is covered in the Doctor Who forum BTW...
And before that there will be a radio episode on the BBC on Sept. 10: "Somewhere out there in that chaos of darkness and light, of science and protons, of gods and stars and death... somewhere there's an answer." The Torchwood Institute was founded by Queen Victoria in 1879 to protect the British Empire against the threat of alien invasion. By 2008, all that remains of the organisation is a small team based in Cardiff. And now, following the tragic deaths of two of their colleagues, the remaining three - Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones - have to protect the human race against another unknown force from the darkness. Martha Jones, ex-time traveller and now working as a doctor for a UN task force, has been called to CERN - the world's largest particle physics laboratory in Geneva - where they're about to activate the Large Hadron Collider. The LHC is a particle accelerator, which has been built deep underground in a 27 km tunnel under Switzerland and France. Once activated the Collider will fire beams of protons together recreating conditions a billionth of a second after the Big Bang - and potentially allowing the human race a greater insight into what the Universe is made of. But so much could go wrong - it could open a gateway to a parallel dimension, or create a black hole - and now voices from the past are calling out to people and scientists have started to disappear... Where have the missing scientists gone? What is the secret of the glowing man? What is lurking in the underground tunnel? And do the dead ever really stay dead? Lost Souls is a spin-off from the award-winning BBC Wales TV production Torchwood. It stars John Barrowman, Freema Agyeman, Eve Myles, Gareth David-Lloyd, Lucy Montgomery (of Titty Bang Bang) and Stephen Critchlow. Time: Wednesday 10th September, 2.15pm Writer: Joseph Lidster Producer/ Director: Kate McAll http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/bigbang/torchwood.shtml
Spoiler: minor spoiler for torchwood s03 so martha is in the radio but freema is not listed for s03? what the hell is with that? and what's with mickey?
Spoiler: In answer to your first question Freema was going to be in TW S3, but was offered a major part in the upcoming UK version of Law & Order (to be produced by former TW producer Chris Chibnall) and has had to withdraw.
And today's lesson is; just because people on the internet say something's going to happen, it doesn't mean it will. (Still waiting for that Red Dalek to open up and reveal Harriet Jones inside!)
uh, no it doesn't. Jack says to Martha she should come work for him, but her reply isn't heard and Mickey says to wait for him, Jack complains he thought he'd got rid of Mickey. that in no way means that they are all going to Torchwood together. Mickey could just be leaving with them in order to cadge a lift somewhere...and Martha's probably happier at UNIT...
Well, you can rationalize it however you want, but from a writing perspective, what is the point of having that line about another job and showing the three of them leave together, if not to hint that they'll all be on Torchwood? You really don't think that the doctor and the computer expert walking off with a guy who needs people with those job descriptions was a bit of a giveaway? Mickey and Martha were going to be on Torchwood; now they're not. This has confirmed by the most reliable spoiler sources, people who (unlike the "Harriet Jones in a Dalek" guy) have never been wrong.
I don't think anyone would deny that they were leaving the door open for one or both of them to appear but it obviously never got to the stage of contracts being signed or scripts being written (and later rewritten).
Re Lost Souls: so they're going to up sticks and leave Wales for Switzerland?! At least it'll be better than their trip to the Himalayas I suppose... You have to wonder what will happen if the Rift goes nuts while they're away though. Abergavenny can only take so much...
If Mickey or Martha don't show up on Torchwood, who's to say they aren't really working at another Torchwood branch? They may be working for Torchwood, even if they're not at the Cardiff branch. Okay, that's a bit of a stretch, but look at what we're working with here!
Noel Clarke's recent movie Adulthood was a great success, so he's probably focusing on his film career for now. Whatever "Journey's End" and internet rumors might have made us think, neither he nor Freema Agyeman was ever announced to appear in Torchwood, so there's no reason to expect a formal explanation for their absence. ("You know these characters who we never said would be in Torchwood? Well, they're still not, and here's why...")
I believe Noel Clarke has a couple of movies lined up. He's also written 2 movies, directed 1, and done a pilot for the BBC, so I don't think he'll be short on work.
