I've never been a big fan of this show. I remember watching it when it premiered and thought it was decent, but nothing really stood out for me. One thing I did and still do find appealing about ENT is Porthos. If humans are going to explore space, they need man's best friend. ENT is the only Trek series that I haven't seen every episode of, so I'm looking forward to seeing something new. I really want to love this show.
ENT gets a lot of flak but it's a tough sell. The series had to always compete and be compared to one... two... three... no, FOUR previous Trek series AND movies AND all kinds of expectations of what a TOS prequel should be. Going in without any preconceptions of a TOS prequel or comparisons to any other ST series... just on its own, no more no less... how bad is ENT really? Or how good is it? Or must ENT exist only in context of ST canon?
A friend of mine has tried to convince me that season 4 is when things get really good. One reason why I'm giving ENT another chance, I haven't seen it all.
I'm early in season 4 now. So far it's pretty much what I wanted the show to be at the beginning. But the first two seasons did have some pretty poor writing. Well, average writing for a TV show, which is poor writing. Writing gets SOOOO much better starting at about mid third season the show's almost unrecognizable.
Really honestly I didn't care much for it when it aired. One night I caught "Carpenter Street" late one night (the original episodes aired at 11:30 here) and then I saw "Twilight" and both I thought were really good. A year or two later I bought the entire series on DVD and spent the Christmas holidays watching the entire series; I fell in love with the show! I have watched the series several times since and must say that it is my second favorite Trek series behind TOS. It got a bad rap but it's pretty solid overall. Of course that is just my opinion, lol.
That's what the mute button on your remote is for. Or the "forward" button on your DVD player, whichever.
Porthos pees on Kreetassan cultural trees! Oh yes, essential to enjoyable, long-term Enterprise viewings.
I like elements of the first 2 seasons, I enjoy the overall story from season 3, but season 4 is where the show should have taken off with the quality of it...I can only imagine what the series could have done with the producers and writers of season 4 once they really had some stories under their belts and after having seen the stories they were working on for season 5. I rank Season 4 of Enterprise as the 5th best in all of Star Trek history..that's 28 seasons (30 if you count TAS).
