Funny, I been thinking the same thing about ALL 20th century guns. The thing about the turnable head of the movie versions is that they seem more primitive doing that switch a roo. Its like the phasers only have 2 settings (seems even more primitive than the enterprise phase pistols) . No wide field, no power settings, no "heater" settings, no "Vaporize" settings.

Agree, and not just cause I own a QMX replica of the phaser from INTO DARKNESS.

My criticism is that it just doesn't have an interesting silhouette from any angle.

It looks like a garden hose nozzle.

I like everything about it except the firing mechanism. A button seems simultaneously unwieldy AND likely to cause accidental activation. There's a reason the trigger is standard on firearms - it's easy to use but also requires more intention to apply the pressure needed.

Sharp design! Honors the original, and adds a "hard" flair to it--certainly a practical, belivable alternative to the dollar bin toys seen in the JJ flicks.

This phaser model demonstrates the design ethic I wish JJA had used throughout the artwork for the movie series. I think the theme for the art would have been much more clever and intriguing had it utilized the original designs in an "embrace and extend" fashion, like with the shipboard uniforms. Had we seen this phaser, along with something more like Carthew & Wallace's "Prime Alternative" Enterprise, and interiors that were familiar but also new and extended, I think movies XI and XII would have felt more like Star Trek for those who remember it, without ruining anything for the newcomers.

Neither do the ones from the films, or the TNG phasers.

It's like it was intended to be a weapon or something.

I dig it. Nice version of TOS PHASER. Very respectful of the original while making it more contemporary.

I could even see this in the TOS universe as an alternate model of the PHASER from TOS. It just has all the elements that makes it work in that universe.

    I want one!

It looks like a suitably revised TOS predecessor to the STVI Assault Phaser... Just need the STIII one to be redesigned to fit. :D

Maybe the one from VI and this one are by Sturm, Ruger & Co., and the one from III is by Glock Ges.m.b.H or S'harien, LTD. *Someone* has to be designing these things. ;)

Not to my knowledge. I'm hoping the original artist does a full series though. TheRPF is where to get a hold of him.

I can't remember who did this a few years ago and there are things about it I don't care for but I like the overall concept of this design which to me is more in the spirit of the sleekness of the original.

    JJ should have used these.
