Just heard about this on the drive in. Ed McMahon, who was Johnny Carson's sidekick on the Tonight Show, passed away this morning. RIP, Ed, and thanks for the memories.
Watching The Tonight Show each weeknight was one of my fond memories from summer back when I was in elementary school. Once school started again I had to be in bed before it came on.
I always liked Ed. He was the consummate second banana on one of the most iconic TV shows in history. He also had a great sense of humor about who he was and what he did in the business. A very likable spokesman and pitchman. He didn't deserve the tremendous financial worries he endured the last ten years. Hopefully he's resting in peace and, somewhere, once again yelling "High-yo!" --Ted
Sadly, his (and Johnny's) tenure on The Tonight Show ended before I was old enough to care about such things, but he always seemed like a decent guy. Even if I did only know him as the Publisher's Clearing House guy. RIP
I keep picturing him meeting up with Johnny in Heaven... "Heeeeeeere's Johnny!" "Ed, I should be saying... HEEEEERE'S EDDIE!"
Sad news. I always enjoyed watching him on Carson and Star Search. I used to love watcning Star Search on weekends evening after collecting money from my paper route.
Sad news, but not completely unexpected. We saw him on Celebrity Family Feud last year and he did not look very healthy. Did they ever clear up his financial problems? I'd hate for the family to have to go through that too.
Conan had a nice little heartfelt announcement of his passing on HIS version of the Tonight Show this evening, which was kinda touching. He played a nice montage of classic Carson clips showing Ed at his best. From all reports, he was a very nice man....
rip ed i am sad that more people write about mj than some 1 that was on tv for 50 year! i care! love dr
