I love the TOS movies as much as I love the TOS series (a lot). I sometimes seem the two as one entity.
TOS. I grew up watching those adventures, Kirk was my hero and there is this wonderful feeling of nostalgia I get whenever I watch an episode that few series can match. DS9 is a close second, and I consider it the best Trek series, but my attachment to the TOS characters prevents it from being my favorite.
I just finished watching voyager in my trek binge, and started the first season of enterprise. I felt Voyager had a lot of flaws, but it also had a charm to it that made me enjoy watching it. I wish they had spent some time developing some of the lesser used characters, but the Doctor easily ranks in my top ten favorite characters from the series so far. DS9 is unquestionably my favorite, and I think I'd probably rank TOS second. Voyager and TNG sort of sit in a strange spot. TNG had better writing, acting, and stories, but I grew to like Voyager's dysfunctional crew. Enterprise has been a bit harder to get through, but I've heard it gets better. I certainly can't fault it for trying something different.
Exactly. That's how I feel about them. The main reason I cast my vote for TOS movies was most of my favorite moments are in those.
I went for DS9. I'm a huge TNG fan but I thought the darker story & plots in DS9 give it the edge as a series.
I voted for DS9. DS9 rocks my world...in a very good way. Close 2nd was Star Trek: The Motion Picture--Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country. 3rd was TNG. 4th was TOS. Everything else tied for 5th.
I enjoyed TOS, TNG and DS9 very much. But if I had to pick a favorite it would be DS9. I think I enjoy it the most because it even dared to question that perfect earth/non conflict utopia that tended to bland TNG. IMO,of the film franchises I have to give it to the first cast. Out of the six films they did I enjoyed four of them(II,III,IV and VI) and three of those were outstanding. The TNG cast did four films and I only liked two of them(First Contact and Insurrection) with only one being outstanding. The JJ Verse films have been good but more time needs to pass before I can judge their staying power.
TNG. I like a lot of the other series too (aside from Enterprise) but there the characters and stories were so good and I especially like how well they did from within the constraints of a quasi-utopian (at least a very admirable) future.
TNG is my favorite, with TOS as second. TNG had the best sci-fi themes for me, often touching on existential. TOS was the best adventure. Both series had a dose of mystery I like in sci-fi. TNG still seems the most futuristic to me in atmosphere, and a lot of that comes from somewhat detached characters, not always relatable, sometimes even alien humans of 24th century, at least at first. Like the detachment of 80s minimal-synth music which I still associate with futurism.
TNG is my favorite but I also like TOS, DS9, and the old movies. VOY and ENT were OK, I guess. I enjoyed nuTrek but it still doesn't seem like "Trek" to me. Entertaining movies though.
^ ^ I agree. The nuTrek was too..... actioney, almost. Not enough "diplomacy", as we're used in Trek.... Fantastic movies, though. Love Abrams.
I voted DS9, as for how I rank the series.... 1. DS9 2. TNG 3. VOY [On its day, it can be my #1 and it frequently switches with TNG] 4. ENT 5. TOS JJ's I just cant get on board with. To me, it isn't Star Trek.
