I think Kathy Bates has a lot of the same kind of sass, the same kind of down-to-Earth vibe, the same kind of assertiveness, that I think of Bacco as having.
I never said any such thing ever in my entire life ever. I never even thought about such a thing. Trust me, on the list of Things I Was Thinking About While Developing Nan Bacco, elder Janeway wouldn't crack the Top 10,000 of that list. You are mistaken, as Christopher said, though I think Bates could do the role. So could Helen Mirren, but that's mainly because I'm fairly certain Helen Mirren can do anything. Jessica Walter? Interesting. Not quite right, but not bad, either.....
Jessica Walter definitely brings a more patrician attitude to the roles I've seen her in than I'd associate with Nan Bacco, but I was thinking about her in terms of her wit, her biting sarcasm, and her air of being in charge.
My apologies, then. I very definitely recall somewhere years ago seeing (either in a thread here or an interview somewhere) a short list of influences for Nan Bacco, "part this person, part that person, and a dash of Admiral Janeway," and I thought for sure it came from you.
Good point. If he were a few years younger, though, he'd fit the role well. Other contenders for Cardassians (not Dygan) include Robert Patrick, Sam Neill, Jeremy Irons and Ed Harris. Any characters whom Emily Blunt could work well as?
Just looking at David Mack's casting for the Vanguard series, I agree with most all of those. Steve Buscemi as Dr. Leone is a class choice! We know from Reservoir Dogs and Armageddon he can do serious and funny all at once.
