There is no way McCoy would treat him as anything but a pretty toaster.

As a CMO's tool, the EMH should be customizable into any male/female/other appearance desired by the physician. It should also be able to function as a nurse, which could be helpful on smaller ships.

I can just see McCoy reprogramming the EMH into a more comely shape..

Every time I see 'comely' used, I'm reminded of the Nichelle Nichols "She's black!" story.

No, during TOS, Jerry Finnerman was setting his key lights on Uhura. When the key spot isn't aimed properly, in lighting jargon they're 'black'. So Finnerman's hollering up to one of the guys on the light rig, saying "No, no, she's black! She's black!"

Then he realizes Nichelle is sitting right there and tries to apologize. She cuts him off with "...but comely." Then later, Nimoy and others could break her up by coming up beside her and saying softly "but comely."

I think Steven Whitfield tells the story in The Making of Star Trek.

I haven't watched TOS as much as the other series, but didn't Bones say once that he'd rather resign than be replaced? I'm sure he would hate the idea of a piece of technology taking the place of a flesh-and-blood doctor. He'd probably treat the Doc even worse than Zimmerman did in "Life Line".

On another note, I just found this on Memory Alpha:

Well. There you go. It's not corroborated by any references to episodes, but I suppose if you accept Memory Alpha as a credible source, then that answers that question.

Imagine an EMH with the appearance and voice of Beverly Crusher, but the personality of Louis Zimmerman.

 Now I'm imagining Beverly saying, "All of us have violent instincts. We have evolved from predators... Well, not me, of course. I've just been programmed by you predators."

What I want to know is, what in heaven's name made Zimmerman think that Andy Dick was an improvement over the Mark I?

Besides, wasn't Pulaski basically a female version of Zimmerman? :p

Pulaski annoyed me with how condescending she was towards Data over season 2, but beyond that she's not as bad as everyone makes her out to be. She was a nice bit of tension to the otherwise sterile environment that was TNG drama.

I know. Ryan channeled the EMH just fine but I don't see McFadden doing it either :(

Gates was a choreographer for some Jim Henson films, I suspect she could easily do Picardo's physical mannerisms. Though his vocal delivery might be hard for her to mimic even with him coaching.

I'm sure that Leonard McCoy is remembered and admired in the same way as Kirk and Spock and that his personality and knowledge have been used when The Doctor was programmed.
