Guys, I can't get over how professional this production looks in these stills. I am sure that you want to keep some info private, but could you give a ball park number on the set costs and other such kewl details?
Well, the cost of set construction was probably under $4000.00. It's amazing what you can find on eBay in terms of electronics and computer stuff - not to mention materials for control panel buttons etc. There's a general rule that the less time you have the more things cost, and that was true in our case. Two months out I was buying cheap gizmos from Hong Kong to drive our computer monitors - but shipping in that situation takes a while, so two weeks out I was paying twice the money for the same thing domestically to make sure we'd have it all in time. Now, that's an estimate of dollars actually spent - to put a cost figure on labor, which has been all volunteer, would be impossible right now. People just showed up day after day and worked like mad on this show for months. That was priceless.

That's cool. Thanks. We'll be making a presentation concerning Polaris at the Farpoint convention in Baltimore in two weeks. The current schedule has us at 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 14th, in the Dulaney Room of the Crowne Plaza hotel. (No, this isn't on the online schedule PDF yet; it's what I've been informed of by the people in charge) Our current plan is to show a three minute clip from the show. I'll update as we know more. The producers and crew will also be participating in "fan film" panels throughout the weekend that concern costuming, budgeting and so forth. Hope to see you all there.
We should do some sort of video link-up - if not this time, then next. I mean, with a laptop and a projector it shouldn't be too hard to Skype this kind of thing, should it? You guys should be able to see the scene before the convention, anyway.

Nah, we just shot the main monitor "dirty" and we either need to move the monitor a little or rotoscope you in over the CG. For the presentation I think we'll move the monitor.
I'm thinking 37-inch flatscreens instead of static art over the consoles. That is, if there were ever a reason to build this thing again.
