    Snooker gets popular:

(and for UK viewers, a whole host of them: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/snooker/8451023.stm)

Oh, and while we're on the subject, here's one of the greatest moments in televised snooker history.... all 5 minutes and 20 seconds of it:

Well, I understand why the crowd is so excited - seeing a squirrel must have been by far the most interesting thing that happened during the entire game.

When the coach says "keep your head in the game", I don't think he quite meant it this way.

I can hear Rick Pitino saying, "you ALWAYS put a man on the inbounds pass!"

It's a darned excellent sequence of game-winners, or rather one that the first team thought was, followed by one that really did win the game. Heckuva game yesterday. And considering that every web site reporting the game and/or showing the clip regarded it as worth noting.

As some of you may know, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are one of (many) teams that use the song 'Sirius' for their entrances. The Huskers accompany this with something called a 'Tunnel Walk' which is a brief animated scene (actually these days it's more live action) accompanying the team as they run onto the field. This is the first one they did after 9/11:

Here's a more normal one. This was a couple of years earlier, after massive renovations had been done to the stadium:

Because stumbled over it again - a truly historic football moment. I'm not sure you can really appreciate the creativity of the player shooting this penalty if you don't follow the sport, but this is such pure genius it almost makes my eyes wet even after watching it a hundred times.

    Just incredible.

    [please ignore the stupid music]

Two legends of snooker, one great moment. Yet some people still get confused between those two iconic players, even to this day:

Funnily enough, after that famous victory, schoolkids across the land would put their glasses on upside-down in hope that it would improve their cue skills. :rommie:

They're prescription billiard glasses - with an enlarged lens to let Dennis look upwards when crouched down, and see the path of the cue and the large snooker table before him.

 It does make sense though, playing pool/snooker with glasses is a little annoying for exactly this reason - you often look "over" the glasses. I guess these days the pros all were contacts if they are shortsighted.

What's especially interesting to me about this clip is, that it seems to me that they played somewhat more aggressive back then. If this were today I think they'd push the black ball back and forth between the bottom and top cushion until one of them makes a mistake instead of taking such risky shots as Davis and Taylor did there, especially in such an important frame.
