The Associated Press named Rock Band 2 the game of the decade. :)

    Oh come on. :p

That's just silly - especially when people are already tired of the genre.

While Harmonix did lay off staff yesterday, it wasn't due to Electronic Arts (which only publishes Rock Band). Harmonix is owned by MTV Games.

Also, for Beatles Rock Band owners, Rubber Soul is available this Tuesday. That's the real one I'm interested in.

Green Day: Rock Band was announced at the VGAs last night. I like their songs... and at least the disc is fully exportable... but really?

Yeah, of all the bands to get their own Rock Band game, Green Day? Well, at least it will probably stop people whining about how none of their early stuff is DLC.

If there is another band that I would want to see get their own version, it would be Pearl Jam.

And Led Zepplin (but that ain't going to happen).

I take it this game will repeat songs that were already downloadable?

I doubt that, the tracklist will be export-able...

According to Joystiq, the songs already available as DLC will work with the Green Day game (like how the Metallica 'Death Magnetic' DLC was compatible with that GH:Metallica) as well. So even if you don't export the songs into RB2, you should be able to play them in the Green Day game.

Still, I have to wonder - will a Green Day game sell? I understand they've been around forever, and have tons and tons of fans, but for whatever reason this just seems weird to me. But I guess we'll see what happens when it comes around.

Part of it could be that Green Day is nowhere near as popular as they used to be. Their new stuff even has long time fans confused. Plus, there's the fact that we're going from the Beatles (the most popular, influential, and iconic band of all time) to a band that is, no offense to any Green Day fans, not even worthy of licking the Beatles' boots.

Depending on how many songs there are on the game, it's really a cost effective way to get a bunch of songs and then (pay to) transfer to your Rock Band set list. What would really give this game some value is if you could play all DLC on it, but I'm sure that won't be happening.

I would've thought U2 Rock Band would've come way before Greenday.

It's kind of sad to see Harmonix going down the Red Octane route, but other than DJ Hero, I guess people are buying the repetitive Guitar Hero titles one after another.

I guess that's the odd thing... are they going to do Dreamscapes for Green Day songs? Are they going to trot out their wives at E3 next year and create this awkward sense of awe over a freaking video game? Is there going to be a Green Day song that will be sold day one for charity?

I don't mind if they junked it up like the AC/DC thing... but a full game seems pretty ludicrous.

Personally i would have been satisfied with their International Superhits! album as DLC, with maybe "The Saints"(with U2) as well...

I'll probably pick up the Green Day game when it hits budget pricing. All I really want is full album Dookie.

I might rent or borrow it first and then decide. I just don't know enough about Green Day's catalog to judge if it'll be fun to play.

See, i would have thought we would get Foo Fighters : Rock Band or Weezer : Rock Band first with the amount of DLC available from them...
