Were there any people having open relationships in Trek?

I would add that I've known plenty of male sluts.

Ah, so this is what this thread is about, the old 'men having problems with polygamous women' thing.

I believe the technical term is "pimp."

Reminds me of that 94 movie Wyatt Earp... it works for some people!

Nah, Kirk's more of a serial monogamist.

In the internet age if somebody needs a pimp is either really dumb or she works in a brothel because she wants to be a part of a comunity without being scarred of stygma.

Even in this advanced internet age you speak of, hundreds of women are kidnapped and forced into prostitution through threats, coercion, and torture. And that's a conservative estimate. None of those women are willingly in the business. Some are forced to work for an internet site.

Yes some of them are forced and they should not be, but there are probably much less than they used to be.

Maybe I'm a bit out of touch but there is no such thing as an "Open Relationship".
You are considered friends with someone until either you or them call it exclusive. Then when it becomes exclusive there are limitations put on both members as to dating. And then you're in a relationship.

If you're both dating other people, you're not in a relationship, you're just friends.

Now, if you're talking about an "Open Marriage" that's a whole different can of worms. I would hope that by the 23rd Century people would be more considerate of each others feelings than to do something like that.

What could be more considerate of someone's feelings then giving them something that makes them happy and doesn't harm anyone?

Well, I don't know about Trek, but apparently "group marriages" are an accepted thing on DEFIANCE . . .

I would also point out the Denobulan culture seems based around open marriages. Heck Phlox was encouraging Trip to sleep with one of his wives. Part of accepting other cultures is accepting their values may not match yours, but that doesn't make it wrong. If everyone involved is consenting... why not?

I somehow doubt the Deltans were monogamous among their own kind . . .
