No, she's playing the character of Carrie Bradshaw... the actor on Sex and the City was Sarah Jessica Parker. Her inflection, delivery and general presence was an excellent impression of Parker's Bradshaw. And maybe that's what the producers wanted.

It's kind of like Karl Urban in Trek 2009. He was great, but I felt more as though he was doing an impression of DeForest Kelly's version of Bones than bothering to come up with his own interpretation of the character. Which is fine... again, not a criticism, just an observation. :techman:

I think most of you are forgetting that the fans of the show are 12 year old girls who don't remember the WTC. Yes, it's been nearly 12 years now.

From what little bit I saw of Sex And The City, I LOVE The Carrie Diaries! :D AnnaSophia Robb is wonderful, I know it isn't doing well but given what they axed, I hope it will hold on. :)

I tried watching the first episode, quickly learned it was not the show for me when a bunch of teenage girls were sitting around the lunch table talking about how much sex hurts the first time around. I was feeling uncomfortable and dirty at the point and started wondering if I need to end up on registry now or something.

    No. You're right. It's awful.

The only justification for watching this tripe is paint ball practice, but then you've ruined a perfectly good television set.

No, I've watched so much Greys Anatomy, that I've turned into a girl.

Have you seen Jane by Design?

It's "this" but set now, and better.

The pseudo 80's stuff is cool but not correct but I dig it. It is better than 90210 and Gossip Girl, but since both are done now I guess that is not saying much. I still like The Carrie Diaries.

Carrie Diaries is only 13 episodes, so despite rumours of cancellation, we're a month away from waiting a year for the next episode, if there is a season 2.

After the final episode (and lead up) of the News Room, I'd quite like to see a Sorkinesque rant on the pros and cons of the Carrie Diaries... Maybe even in a flash back episode of the News Room set entirely during the 80s.

I think it is a decent show but it is so inconsistent with Sex and the City that I cannot take it seriously as a prequel. If you forget that you are supposed to watch the same Carrie from SaTC, then it is fine.

What's so bad about it? I say this without having watched a minute of the show, but my 17 year old self was vastly different from my 20 year old self which, in turn, was miles away from my 25 and 30 year old selves.

I was mainly referring to things like the fact that, in SaTC, Carrie mentioned at some point that her father abandoned her and her mother. And, in this show, her father is the one supporting the family while the mother is not there.

I watch the show and generally enjoy it. But, as I've said, it is a decent show on its own but you should not expect any continuity with SaTC.

The finale isn't too far off...I love this show and given what the CW has planned...they need this to not be a "genre only" net. ;)
