Why they don't they just reboot/re imagine Buffy. Kick ass female check Hot vampires check Teen angst check lack of originality check
Ok if they want to do something somewhat original, my suggestion is: A young Barbara Gordon show. She could be a young 20 something computer specialist who helps out her father, the commissioner of police and maybe a mysterious vigilante that dresses up as some nocturnal pest (a raccoon I think ). Since they are planning to reboot Batgirl maybe CW should consider it.
Temis pretty much already suggested rebooting Buffy for television but once again that isn't the point of the thread. They're looking for another superhero based television series like "Smallville" with traditional comic book heroes. Not supernatural heroes who have powers or use magic or the like.
Bonnie Tyler has gone on record as saying, "He's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight." But her comments were made some time ago and I'm not sure how much influence she has over the CW's current strategy.
I think Termis wanted a show like Buffy not necessarily a reboot. Since this CW, a Buffy reboot is probably in the works. As for superheroes with no powers, I have to ask why bother. You've basically created a show about some vigilante with some serious issues.
So basically crime fighter vs. monster hunter. Personally I don't see the difference but I'm not the CW.
Since when is Barbara Gordon a Supernatural Hero with powers (Or was that just a coincidence in timing that posted right after Yminale?) Yminale: Ok if they want to do something somewhat original, my suggestion is: A young Barbara Gordon show. I wasn't responding to Yminale's Babs idea, I was responding to his suggestion of a Buffy reboot, and yes I admit I was incorrect that Temis suggested a Buffy reboot. I pretty much think any superhero show like what has suggested would work on CW since they're looking to change their policy from what was under Dawn Orodoff (probably mis spelled her last name). That's kind of the entire point of what Jetfire originally linked.
My bet is that they'll go for something that uses what appears to be traditional comic book heroes (costumes, secret identities, costumed superfoes), but with much for of the TVD - or Buffy, since that seems to be the same thing - feel. If they use an existing superhero, he/she will be adapted to fit the CW formula.
I did read that article, but didn't get the idea that they were changing the formula, so much as they are looking for a new topic (superhero, not more vampires and witches). I don't want either! Frankly I can barely stomach TVD and will probably drop it. I'm predicting what the CW will do, based on that article and their past behavior, and what has and hasn't worked for them. I don't see them suddenly veering away from the teen-angst formula, which they can do iterations of with superheroes or various supernatural type characters, or do real world variants with no sf/f content at all. If they do that, they'll probably be successful and I won't be watching any CW show at all. But I accept that I'm not their target market. None of my posts in this thread are about what I want. CW doesn't do what I want. I just find the topic interesting from a pure business perspective.
That's nothing to do with a "formula." They're branching into new genres with more comedies and reality. The superhero show can easily hew to their existing successful formula for dramas.
John Constantine would be wasted on the CW. Get his ass on a premium cable network pronto! It would be nice to see a female character get a series. The ones who spring to mind who could be a good fit for a CW show are: Manhunter Supergirl Vixen Zatanna
Yeah, I just checked out random episodes from all the seasons and the theme has been replaced on all the episodes. Which led me to google it and discover sometime between the airing of s8 of Charmed (which did include the original theme song) and the DVD release of s8, the rights to the song expired. So I assume that's what led to the netflix streaming deal including the new (generic and dull) replacement theme on all the episodes. But the original DVD releases of s1-s7 had the original theme. It's annoying. And I apologize because this has nothing at all to do with the thread topic.
For real...a Green Arrow series would be great...it doesn't even need to be a "spin-off" of Smallville...they could start totally fresh. The Emerald Archer worked on Smallville and I am sure a series would be cake.
I thought Prue worked in acquisitions in an auction house? Or did she change careers that I don't recall. Please don't make me watch it again.
They should do S.H.A.Z.A.M., the concept from DC's Flashpoint universe. Six teens each get one aspect of a mythological god or king, and when they say the magic word SHAZAM, they form the hero Captain Thunder ( I would just call him Thunder in the show). The twist being Thunder is female in appearance instead of male. No costume necessary, just six teens with an ability/insight, who make a seventh more powerful being. Just make every season somewhat self contained, where most plot points are resolved by season finale, much like on BtVS.
Wiki tells me she worked at the Museum of Natural History, then at an auction house and then became a photographer.
^Right. Anyway, the point is, she was an adult professional, not a teenager. None of the regular characters on Charmed was a teenager, except perhaps the final-season addition Billie, a college student who was apparently either 19 or 20 (the actress was 19 at the start of the season, 20 by the end).
