Thanks. I went with that registry only because that is Jack Pierce's birthday /5/5/1889. I wasn't going to post my UEG work here since it appears to be primarily a Star Trek forum.
Very nice work! I like your attention to detail. I did know about that concept, but I thought I remembered seeing an angled concept drawing of that.
^ Are you sure you're not thinking about the preliminary design that they ended up building a study model of? (images dv-5 and dv-8 in the above link) Fozz: Loving the Pierce, except for the areas around the rollbar connection points. This much solid black somehow looks wrong on a Federation Starfleet starship. But then again, this is about a civil war, so this class might have been commissioned after its start by one of the factions? Or have you even begun fleshing out the overall civil war backstory and how these different ship classes fit in, yet? Plus, any updates on the Claymore would be greatly appreciated.
True, but so is Subspace Comms. Besides, OT threads aren't that uncommon here. Just thought that members here might want to see and comment on them. So, is the Pierce a one-off, or is she a member of a class, the name of which you just haven't thought of yet?
I don't personally mind the amount of black, but the way it is now makes the connection between the hull and the rollbar look a bit abrupt, IMO.
The only actual solid black parts are two small rectagles. It's actually a dark blue broken up will a honeycomb of dark grey and meduim grey. It's meant to be a very heavy armor. I have yet to give the story too much thought yet I'd like to get some more ships done or atleast close to done. Well them maybe I will post my UEG stuff here. The Pierce is the class of this ship. I will also use the names Smith for Dick Smith. Winston for Stan Winston. Baker for Rick Baker and Savini for Tom Savini. All make up artists. Well I'm happy with it since it turned out better than I thought it would so I won't be making any changes to it. UPDATE... I’ve placed a secondary deflector in the nose of the ship. Also an RCS thruster. Add some small detail to the hull. I also moved the back RCS thruster to the side and moved the phaser strip over o the left a little bit. this is much better than how I first did it.
Nice updates! I really like how that black patch on either side looks right now. The only thing that bugs me is the cutout for the secondary deflector. I think it needs to be integrated better into the overall form rather than just a strict and obvious cutout.
The secondary deflector is still kind of in the rough stages right now. I just wanted to see if it would look ok and I think it does. I needed to do something to break up the tip of the nose because it was bugging me.
UPDATE... I still haven’t lost my mojo on this ship so I’ll just keep working. Added more detail to the top of the primary hull. I think this is about all I can do without overdoing it. I might add a little bit more to the command deck. Close up hull detail. I’ve also added more lifeboats to the side of the hull.
UPDATE... I finished the detail work around the secondary Nav Deflector. I forgot all about windows so I had to rethink a few ideas and I’ve now started to add windows. There won’t be many. And the scale might be a little off now but I can live with it. Decided to build a new chair for my star Trek ships and came up with this. The new chair will go in the rooms behind the new windows.
UPDATE... Here is rough idea of the interior of one of the rooms. The side windows are mostly done and I've started to texture the command deck. A close up of the new textures and an idea for lifeboat textures. A ship I roughed in awhile ago but just now had an idea for a change in the saucer. I'm still not happy with it but it is better.
What is the idea behind her? To me, she looks a little like the Hokule'a class (the ADSB design). The Red Admiral lists her as a Destroyer and Medium Cruiser, so could this ship serve the same purposes? They look alike especially because of the way the two sections are attached to one another on an even plane, the stretched ovoid look of the engineering section, and the hump on the engineering section, as well as where the pylons are attached.
I really haven't thought that much about this ship yet. As goofy as it may sound I let the ship tell me as I work on it. It's a little bit smaller than the Enterprise-E and probably would fill the same role. And I've never heard of the Hokule'a class before.
The Hokule'a class is a semi-canon ship, probably best known for the USS Tripoli, the ship that discovered Data on Omicron Theta. Have a fan render.
