Actress Jean Stapleton, obviously best know for her role as Edith Bunker, has passed away at age 90.

    Story

A good long run, 90, and a great career including one of the most iconic roles on television.

    R.I.P.

My favorite was the time Archie and Edith were discussing a taxidermied deer at a (I think) a friend's house.

Edith said she hated going there because it made her feel bad seeing the deer's sad eyes.

Archie said it was okay, the eyes were glass

Edith replied that was even worse. Who would shoot a blind deer?

A very few shows formed the background of my childhood. In no particular order they were: MASH, Star Trek, Happy Days and All In the Family. Every time one of the actors from those shows passes, it feels like an old friend or family member has departed. R.I.P. Jean- you will be missed but always remembered.

^ Those shows for me too, maybe not so much Star Trek, because it was long over when I was watching TV.

But the others I watched when they were in first run, if not from day one.

She was so good on All In The Family, I never watched after she left. The writers gave her moments of such feeling and wisdom amidst her ditzy shtick, and she could pull it all off brilliantly. I'm very sorry to see her go.

I heard about this via yahoo.com and was very upset. I loved her on All in the Family. My all time favorite episode is the one where Edith was going through the change and in he end she threw a phone at Archie!! LOL!!! And she tells Archie to stifle for once!! I have never laughed so hard. She will indeed be missed.

Trek was in syndication for me, too, but every afternoon at 3:30...

Trek was twice a day on two different channels in two different markets that served our household. My dad would watch it at 5:00 pm out of Rochester and 6:00 pm out of Syracuse (or vice versa).
