Re: Is is wrong... For one birthday, I stopped by a bar/restaurant chain (Chili's, I think). The bartender said, "What'll you have?" I said, "It's my birthday, I just hit 40, give me an old fashioned." I guess he liked the comeback, or maybe it was policy, but the drink was free. He got twice the regular cost of the drink as a tip.
Re: Is is wrong... Thank you. I'm not one for cake. I'm more of a pie fan myself. Thank you. Yup, I turned thirty. Agreed. I hate getting gifts most of the time. My mother always insists on getting me a few cards though. Usually they are the kind that play sound when you open them. She usually gets one every year which I actually like. I got an oversized one with vader on the front that plays the imperial march when opened. My favorite one has a line from Spock talking about irritating being a human emotion. indeed, 30 it is. I'm never happy with my gifts. Back when I was around ten or so I issued a family wide policy that i wanted cash instead of presents for graduation (we were considering ourselves Jehovah's Whitnesses back then so graduation part each year was like a combined Christmas and birthday for us kids). Pulled in about $400 that year. Blew most of it at my aunts county fair the next day. Bought three hand blown glass/crystal star trek figurines. Two enterprises and a Klingon battle cruiser. TBBS doesn't annoy me. Thanks. Too early in the season to do any fishing. Thanks. Na. Just dealt with a lot of stress in the last year and looking to have a bit of a one staycation. And an excuse to be a total lazy ass for a day. Thanks. I live with my family. See them every day. Not clinical depression, but thanks. Posting in the wee hours of the AM, never a good thing. Not a big drinker, but that sounds like fun. I might have to do that this week. If I missed quoting anyone, thanks for the replies.
Re: Is is wrong... I always try and book the days around my birthday off work. So it gives me the option of doing something should I want to, true the last few years it's been sped doing as little as possible but it's always nice to have the option of being able to do something.
Re: Is is wrong... lol.. not wrong at all. I think most adults don't give a royal shit about birthdays.
Re: Is is wrong... lol.. fucking bullshit. Maybe he doesn't give a shit, and simply wants to lie in? yeah, laziness and comfort are mental health disorders.
Re: Is is wrong... More bollocks/nonsense. Maybe he has no children to look after, or SO. Maybe he has the day off work. Maybe he has no real chores to do or errands to run.
Re: Is is wrong... Infraction for spamming. Four rapid fire posts in a row with barely any useful content. Use the multi-quote function in the future. Comments to PM. Infraction for flaming. Comments to PM.
Re: Is is wrong... Sometimes taking a day to yourself to decompress from life is a good thing. No hysterics of depression diagnoses needed.
Re: Is is wrong... There's no reason to exaggerate and call it hysterics. He started the thread asking if it was wrong, and some people pointed out that such tendencies can be symptoms of depression. No on here is insisting that he is clinically depressed, they were just showing some friendly concern. We could do with more people taking interest in the well-being of others. He's responded telling us that it's not a pattern, so it's a non-issue. Happy Birthday Data. I'm turning 30 in June myself and I'm a bit worried about how I'll handle it given the events of the past six months. But taking a day to yourself is always valid, birthday or not.
Re: Is is wrong... ^A one off event is not a "tendency" though. If he said "I spend a lot of my weekends just lying in bed", then it might be cause for concern. Would you advise him that he might have alcoholic tendencies if he had said "I plan to get drunk for once on my birthday"?
I had a dark chocolate cheesecake courtesy of the wife, a lie in bed (more important that you know cos I have twin two year olds), a fry up breakfast and the first dinner out my wife and I have had 15 months. 35 is awkward though. Swedish rounding means I'm now closer to 40.
