Wondering if The Winter Soldier ends up running with that little detail.

Come to think of it, the SHIELD series would be a great platform to explore the idea of a real world reacting to the existence of alien invasions and super heroes. Show more the impact on the general populace. We got a bit of that in the pilot with the store full of action figures but I want more of that.

No so much the incident with Thor. I think Skye had a blink and you'll miss it line about Shield having covered up what happened in New Mexico. It was a small town in the middle of nowhere, so I could see them pulling that off.

Harlem has a LOT more people. We saw Abomination strolling down a heavily trafficked street with hundreds of witnesses.

Still, I don't think it would lessen the shock to a significant degree. We all saw the massive cultural impact a couple of hijacked planes had around the world and they hysteria it didn't let up for *years*. It profoundly changed the world and we've only begun to see the long term implications.

What happened in NY would be easily tenfold.

Some observations-- First, it was the World Security Council that tried to nuke NYC, not SHIELD. Second, Jenny Agutter played the WSC member who ordered the pilot to nuke NYC. Agutter will be in Winter Soldier as a subordinate to Robert Redford's "Alexander Pierce". Third, Redford has let slip that he is actually playing the villain of the piece (Robert Redskull?). So Winter Soldier actually just might pick up on that little plot point.:)

Not reading all 64+ pages of this thread :)

So far I am very disappointed with this new series.

The only actor I'm impressed with is Melinda May played by Ming-Na Wen (good in SGU as well)

The pilot was not gripping. The actors either aren't good and/or don't play off each other well.

Each episode is getting a little better.

I was expecting allot more "Joss" (or maybe Firefly) here. His characters usually blend well together.

Totally. Thor was an easy coverup, and considering the presence of so many agents and the way SHIELD scooped up Jane's van and research, the coverup was pretty obvious.

There was no way to cover up New York.

If anyone really doesn't get how much impact the Chitari had, I'd suggest going to the library and requesting a copy of a little book called "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke.

Psychological trauma doesn't count in New York. If my Woody Allen movies are to be believed, there are 3 Psychiatrists per New Yorker in New York City.

Globally however, there might be a problem.

Wow, another big improvement IMO. I think the spy vs spy route is exactly what SHIELD should be doing. Some people want the superheroes, I'm happier only seeing super powered villains/heroes once in a while. AIM, HYDRA and maybe even some new organizations should be the primary bad guys. Still, a Mark Ruffalo/Hulk cameo maybe in a season finale or premier would be epic.

I like how competent everyone seemed in this episode, and the tone was a little more serious. Sky saying things like "which way is south?" is cute but not incompetent, and thats how it should play from here on out.

Hopefully, a future plot will require solving via caber-tossing.

Well I enjoyed that episode a lot more. Something about it just clicked for me. I hope we get more improvements like this.

Maybe they could have SHIELD missions where they have to destroy evidence, create hoaxes and plant doubts in the population over what happened.

^That's what Shield does but I wouldn't want an episode of it (unless their was no other way). Covering up aliens and things of that sort seems pointless after New York anyway. I would like to see more super-powered beings but I'll settle for spy vs spy or what I imagined AoS would be, an X-files/Sherlock Holmes/A Team with an espionage approach.

^Plus that's more like SHIELD grunt work. This is supposed to be about a small team of specialists taking on the more unusual cases, they're not the clean-up crew for Banner and Thor.

When I watched this week's episode, I kept thinking that the mastermind would be revealed as Basil Sandhurst (The Controller). Sandhurst has ties to SHIELD, Iron Man and even Thanos; so he would be a great fit for the show; and with the show having already used somebody like Graviton, I think that Controller is fair game.

Of course, we may yet see Sandhurst is behind the whole thing...

I think this was the best episode so far. It was kind of a fun spy-fi thriller, which exactly what I was expecting the series to be. We also got some possible build-up of the big bad and some nice character moments for all of the characters, so for me there was a lot to like here.
