I watched the pilot over at a friend's house recently and I loved it so much I ran out and bought season 1 the very next day. I've made it through the second disc and I just have to ask, how long did it take for you to figure out the identity of the ice truck killer? I knew it was him the first time I saw him on-screen. I pumped my fist when the big reveal happened. Can't wait to see the rest of the season.
I had my suspicions, but dismissed them when the character disappeared for an episode or two. Then they bring him/her back and pull the reveal out in a big way. The rest of the season is excellent. I've seen it twice now since picking it up on DVD. Can't wait for season two (and three).
I had suspicions too, but I dismissed them thinking: that's way too easy And just wait until you hit Season 2 -- it's so engrossing and intense and builds and builds and you keep thinking at the end of each episode, "how the fuck will he get out of this?".
Ooh, I cannot wait. But, I guess I will have too as I cannot splurge on more DVDs at this moment. Stupid economic downturn. ETA: Are they available through netflix?
Awesome, I'll check that out! I've been looking for a reason to join Netflix, maybe this is all I need to take the plunge.
I was spoiled on S1 before I made the decision to check it out, and my hunch is I wouldn't have figured it out very early, not even that rather blatant hospital room scene with the ice rink guard where they were yakking about how he could be in the room and the guy wouldn't know him, while Rudy was fitting him for prosthetics. There's another Big Twist coming your way, incidentally, which also has been foreshadowed but I defy anyone to actually predict it based on that foreshadowing. However! I did manage to figure out the big twists in S2 before the fact, having gone in basically unspoiled. That is all I will say about that till you get thru the S2 disks. I'll be curious to hear whether you also saw it coming. Watch all of S1 before reading the first book in the series (Darkly Dreaming Dexter) since it spoils some of the S1 twists. In other ways, the book and TV series are very different, tho I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility that some of the book twists will appear in the TV series (one in particular I'd say is inevitable but not till they get to the last season or two).
Ah, I just finished season one tonight. Man, that went by so fast! I LOVED the final twist of the season. This one I can honestly say surprised me. I only figured it out... Spoiler: the Twist when we saw Dexter's mom had multi-colored fingernail poilsh. I knew it couldn't be a coincidence. Like all things, it was a sign, hiding in plain sight all along. I guessed the ice truck killer was Dexter's brother mere moments before the reveal. And then everything made sense. It was cool. I pumped my fist again! The Lt (or was it the creepy guy?) was right, the end was poetic. But not for the reasons they stated. Dexter may be a serial killer but he ain't your cookie-cutter psychopath. He's interesting. I think I may be netflixing season two sooner than I planned. ETA: More big twists on the way? Cool! I look forward to more creepy, clever, mind-bending fun.
You're burning thru the DVDs faster than I even did! The truth about Rudy was foreshadowed in the first episode, with the doll's head - "want to play?"
You really are powering through those things! I'm going to have to get around to putting season 2 on my Netflix because I watched season 1 when it was on showtime and loved it, but I haven't seen an episode since.
I have had a friend copy and watched the first 2 eps last night. I started on the 3rd but the disc is badly scratched and jumped to chapter4(20min into the ep). I liked what I saw and will be verbally abuvsive to my friend for giving me scratched discs.
A friend at work offered to let me borrow her S2 discs. I'll see if I can get them and watch them over the weekend.
Of course. I'm going to borrow it from my friend tomorrow if she remembers to bring it. Otherwise, I shall pester her until she does remember.
Hey, usually my threads die. I do not have a green thumb when it comes to threads, so thank you. She promised to bring the set to me tomorrow so I the feast will begin again soon!
I had a feeling that the Spoiler: SPOILER Ice Truck Killer was Dexter's brother, due to him being physically similar, except darker and swarthier (a different father, likely because their pretty criminal mum was also a part time prostitute, since that explains why the Ice Truck Killer only went after young and attractive women working as prostitutes).
Interesting hypothesis. I didn't think of that possibility. I just thought he went after prostitutes because he could easily get them to come home with him.
