I live in the Midwest. Believe me, I know.

I have had both my A/C and my furnace on in the last week. Occasionally both in the same day.

It's my son's Aaron's 3rd birthday today. Which we got to celebrate at an excellent resturant here in New Orleans. I was fortunate to find a bakery that would make and deliver a cake today, so we got to surprise him with a Lightning McQueen birthday cake.

    Aaron surprised by the cake

He blew out the candles the second the waitress put it on the table, even before we finished singing Happy Birthday.

Aaron wanted to eat Lightning, so mom cut it out for him

Nice surprise for your son, Tom. Yup, the Red Fish Grill is an excellent restaurant. It was the first place we hit when we visited NOLA two years ago. When we were there, the staff were telling us that they were the first restaurant back up and running after Katrina.
And now I want a piece of cake!!

Birthdays when you're a little kid are so great. Not that the ones as a grown adult can't be memorable and lots of fun, too, but when you're that young and small everything at a birthday party is so huge, exciting and stimulating to the senses. All the colors and sounds just make everything seem so much more epic.

    ^Eddie, I couldn't agree more.

Well I got done a little early today with my duties and decided to goto the casino. I walked in with $200 and walked out with this.…

It's never too early to introduce a modern child to all the great old cartoons.

I posted this on Facebook and said, "Dinner decided to volunteer itself this evening."

It's not everyday I see a turkey wandering around. He looks so sad too.

I almost posted this in the "What did you have for dinner?" thread, saying, "This."

I was in Atlanta this past weekend for a science fiction convention, and stepped outside on Friday afternoon to find this:

Apparently the hotel (the Century Centre Marriott) has three bunnies living on its grounds. I saw all three of them later that night, but it was too dark out to take their photo.

Here's a picture that was taken during one of the panels (a version of the game show "Match Game"). I'm in the third row on the aisle, wearing the white shirt with blue stripes on the sleeves (yes, I was wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey at a science fiction convention :) ).

Dude, he may look sad, but turkeys are vicious, mean bastards.

What the heck does whether it's a baseball or hockey jersey have to do with anything when it's a science-fiction convention?

That happens all the time in my parents' neighborhood. Sometimes there'll be entire families of turkeys prowling around. They even block traffic! Nobody's ever taken a shot at one though...yet. (If this happened in MY neighborhood, though, somebody would. )

    Right on!

I wore a Rush t-shirt to the last convention I went to.

Barbara Luna (of all people) walked up to me and asked me "Were at the concert last night?" I told her I was, and she said that she and her boyfriend were there as well. They're huge Rush fans, and we ended up talking for half an hour about the band.

You never know what is going to spark a conversation!
