Well, one of the first. There were others in the scene with him. But I believe he was the first to speak.

Wasn't Lenard the one closest to camera? So technically, he was first...

    Worth a shot. ;)

A thought just occurred to me while I was watching one of my Babylon 5 DVD's last night:

Mira Furlan as First Minister Asarem Wadeen! :D

Ooh, that's good! I never really had much of a mental picture for Taelani, but Vanessa works. And I think Travolta would be perfect as that slimeball Drake.

Very good...does anyone else have suggestions as to who could play other "Shatnerverse" characters?

For some reason I keep seeing and hearing Dick Miller (Vin on DS9's "Past Tense' and a holographic news vendor on TNG's "The Last Goodbye" as Vanguard's Quinn.

It's been a while since I read them; I can't remember who my fantasy cast was, or even if I really had any.

Has anyone either in this thread or a previous one cast the characters of the Vanguard series? I have several ideas for the characters - Ewan McGregor as Tim Pennington, for example....I wonder what others think?

Actually, that has been covered at length in the past; my own thoughts for who I pictured while writing Harbinger can be found at the end of my online annotations for that book. (Scroll to the end of the annotations; the casting notes are at the bottom.)

In fact Ewan McGregor was David's pick for Pennington. I've read through the annotations several times and I agree with all of his picks except I'd cast Edward James Almos (Olmos?) as Reyes.

^ As soon as I saw Dave's notes for casting choices on Vanguard, I was sold on Tommy Lee Jones as Reyes, and he's who I envisioned the whole time I was writing his scenes.

    "Cooper, what are you doing?"

    "Thinking, Commodore."

"Well, think me up a cup of raktajino and one of those donuts with the chocolate sprinkles on top, while you're sittin' there thinkin'."

    Or

"We're searchin' for the meta-genome which has gone hidden for hundreds of thousands of years and has been detected on planets dozens of light years apart. That gives us a search radius of twenty-two light years. What I want out of each and every one of you is a hard target search of every planet, moon, asteroid, nebula, black hole, white hole, and wormhole in that area. Go get it."

    ^ or...

Pennington: "We should reveal the truth. People are smart, they can handle it."

Reyes: "No, a person is smart. People are dumb, panicky animals, and you know it."

Ah yes, thank you, David. I was trying to find that on your site yesterday and I couldn't locate it.

I would agree with most of the choices, however, I don't see Tommy Lee Jones as Reyes. For some odd reason, I was inclined to stick Clive Owen's head on the character and it's worked out pretty well for me. I guess that's what I get for reading it first and forming my own opinions before getting to your annotations, huh? :D It's pretty cool that I had Pennington nailed with Ewan McGregor. And even though I had different actresses picked out, I think Monica Belluci as Oriana and Bridget Moynahan as T'Prynn work out perfectly. (Incidentally, I had Morena Baccarin as Oriana and a Jolene Blaylock clone for T'Prynn.

Just curious, who did you think of as the voice for Jetanien? I keep hearing Christopher Lee underneath all that "makeup"...
