^ Knowing Aaranoksly, I'd say damn few. And I'd say you're right about the non-specific time setting (after all, for all the previous movie's prequel setting, it had no notion of period setting or authenticity anyway).

What's not to get about it? It is a stand alone film that will ignore elements of the first film and quite frankly that's a good thing in my opinion, much like "X-Men:First Class" is doing the same thing ignoring elements from the film, particularly concerning Emma.

^ But to say it's not a sequel, when it's a movie featuring the same title character, not to mention a character who was essentially the lead in 3 other movies? Sounds a bit like movie spin bullshit.

Perhaps this is the new 'reboot.' They're rebooting the term reboot.

Probably because they want to distance themselves from the shitty first movie. And why shouldn't they? If Aronofsky makes the great Wolverine movie I hope for, I'll be happy if I don't ever have to think about the "X-Men Origins" one when I watch it.

I'm actually quite excited for "X-Men: First Class" as well as "The Wolverine" simply because of the filmmakers involved. I wouldn't have thought that was even possible after "X-Men 3" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Therefore, in my book, the more they distance themselves from their immediate predecessors, the better.

Really it's a trivial thing and doesn't really matter. Why we discuss these things like they're going to be the reasons the movie does well or not baffles me. To echo the thoughts of AvBaur which I agree with, yes this is most likely an attempt to distance themselves from the previous film which almost everyone disliked and thought was a piece of shite. The fact that there is a profound effort to make second film more entertaining and more in tune with the Wolverine we know from the comics should be encouraging, everything else is immaterial and doesn't matter. As long as it's a good film I don't really give a rats ass.

^Nahh, then people would be asking video-store clerks why they didn't have Wolverine: Weapon I - IX in stock. ;)

I kinda think it would've worked if it had been called:
Wolverine II: The Legend of Curly's Gold!!

That's assuming the average person would think of Roman numerals when they see the DVD case up on the shelf. :shifty:

    Here, you may need this:

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/joke

Besides, there's a real basis for the joke. It's reported that there were some moviegoers who saw the film version of Shakespeare's Henry V and said they wished they hadn't missed the first four films.

^ The same justification was used (possibly apocryphally?) to explain the renaming of Bennett's The Madness of George III to The Madness of King George when that movie adapation of the play was filmed.
